Do I Need To Go Out?
Dee... It's easy to take you for granted. When I first arrived at SR, and I am sure like many others, you greeted me. Your wisdom coming from a place far off from where I was and still am in many ways.
I think this is common. New people read into the words of those who have achieved some level of stability or understanding and choose to not see themselves in the solution contained in that advice. The ideas feel foreign.
Seeing your rising from the ashes helps me see that we collectively come from the same place. Even with our many differences drinking and drugging reduces us to a common puddle of humanity.
Thanks for reminding me that I can also keep going strong in my efforts and reach safer and better places than I could have imagined.
Thanks!
Ken

Wow Dee, that was awesome to read. Thanks for sharing that. "We've all been there" is nice to hear, but it means even more when you can truly read the thoughts that were in your head that day. As you know, I've gone through the same stuff - and while I'm past that now, I'm certainly still navigating the seas after leaving the harbour. Thanks buddy, this was helpful and it was kind of you to share.
I didn't become someone else, I simply became someone I'd forgotten I was.
Your honesty about your struggles shines through in all your posts, in all your advice.
I am really grateful that you shared this Dee! I loved every part of it. Especially your comment on how it is now a lot quieter than 2007, but you enjoy that! You really did have to change a lot in your life and that is so difficult. Thank you for showing us the positive side of change.
great stuff there, dee. although not what i was expecting to read when i read the title of the thread. i was thinkin it was gonna be more like "and get huge friggin post it notes for everyone to remember the rules here???"
keep up the good work!

Wow Dee,
Thanks for this. Your old thread expresses well how courageous is the act of moving into sobriety.
Just thinking about when I first came here. Oi! Terrified. How on earth could I live the life I created...without alcohol? Slowly I watched and learned. Everything and everyone was and continues to be an inspiration here on SR.
Bye-bye contortionist me. Thanks for your continued inspiration Dee.

Great post Dee. St. patty's for me this year will be spent at work, then at the gym, the researching my how to fill out my NCAA tournament bracket. If a coworker invites me to something, I'm going to say I have plans to go out with my friends. If one of my friends asks me to go to something, I'm going to say that I'm going out with some of my coworkers.
Absolutely no way I should be in a bar on St. pattys
