Running Away from Friday Happy Hour One of the big parts of my sobriety plan is to rediscover exercise and competition (haven't done much in over 2 years). I didn't really plan this timing today, but the way my day shook out, I ended up starting my run around 5:30 pm. The route I use goes through a park and on one stretch, on the other side of the street is a strip of restaurants and bars filling up with happy hour patrons. I'm pretty slow these days, so I had plenty of time to observe and think about all the times I had been across the street. As I neared the end of the strip I had a chuckle that I was literally "running from the scene of the crime(s)!" I think, whenever I can, I'm going to keep my Friday run in that time slot, just to keep that memory alive. Might not be a bad idea for those adding exercise into their programs to try to time it when you suspect you might be tempted. I just wanted to share, thanks! |
Sounds like a good idea. I started long-distance walking right after supper, which was the hardest time of the day for me. I can't tell you the benefits that have come my way from that. |
That's a great idea. I do find exercise helps a lot and I do it when I can. Being outside in the fresh air is especially nice. Take care! |
Nice going, trigeek. You ran past the demon and he didn't catch you. Keep powering. |
Thanks everyone! Like I said, I didn't plan it that way, but in hindsight it makes perfect sense. |
I like the idea! You doing something healthy, vs them killing their health |
In early sobriety I would walk my dogs when I had a craving to drink. (they got a lot of walks for a while). I still walk them at least once a day, weather permitting, and look forward to the fresh air, sunshine, and exercise. It does us all a world of good. The power of exercise can't be minimized. It really helps. :) |
