Road trip. DANGER ahead

I'm heading off to Wales to see my parents tomorrow and I'm very aware there is much danger ahead.

I'm travelling alone (well me and my AV)(not the best of travelling companions),
The journey time is 12 hours,
I'm not driving (coach and ferry),
Probably some unforseen stuff as well.
Both my wife and my mother are very anxious as I have been carried off the ferry on a few occasions. Once straight to hospital. And once, when I was driving, a DUI.

I was impressed by BruceSA's survival kit yesterday, so have decided to do the same. I have absolutely no problem with plagiarism.

1. E-Reader charged and loaded with books.
2. Recovery song loaded onto my phone (The Cure. Doing the Unstuck).
3. Snacks. (Don't want to mistake hunger for cravings).
4. Tablet charged. Will stay connected to SR wherever there's WiFi.
5. Plenty of fluids.
6. Avoid deck 5 on the ferry. That's where the bar is!

Hopefully I'll find some WiFi spots, because I need you.
On the upside I'll avoid St Patrick's Day in Ireland. (The booze, not the celebrations)

Sounds like you got everything covered! Yes that would be dangerous for me.

I tried to stop drinking before a trip back to texas. Im scared to death of flying. I made it there safe and sober but on the way back I drank because I was terrified.

Anyways, wishing you best of luck! ! Avoid the bar!

Sounds like you have a good plan in place. I always find that dozing off helps too. I would triple up on the snacks and fluids so that you don't find a reason to go to deck 5. My brain would always find a reason that I just had to run into the shop that I bought beer, even when I had no intent to drink. Bon Voyage!

Thanks Jade.
The way back has been worse for me in the past too. I'll tweak the survival kit for that if I need to.

Good luck - I have been on the Cork Swansea ferry quite a few times, not sure I can remember them though in the same way as you say!!! Try writing yourself a little note or memo, so you can check up on your goal, your aims of how you want to feel and how you want your loved ones to find you, and think of you, even take a teeny note book and pen and write out stuff as you thump up and down on them waves (wish you a smooth one!!!)
A photo too perhaps...
all the best and have fun in Wales x

Actually, reading what Jade said, I always used to get mega hammered after a visit to/from my parents... dunno why as I like them, maybe it was being on best behaviour and trying not to show I was letting them down... so double up the protective barriers for the way back!!! You will do yourself proud I am sure x

Great plan. Enjoy the ride and remember what drinking will bring if the AV starts saying "it's ok I'm on a road trip, just this time, I'll get back on track tomorrow"

Those toughs always failed me when I gave in.

Have a safe trip!

Sparkos, I think the important thing is that you are recognizing the dangers and making a plan to keep yourself sober. I think you are all set.

We're here for you if you need us!

Thanks all. I feel no shame in getting all the support I can get.
Not going to try to be "strong", because I'm not!
Will try to "ride the thoughts" if (rather when) they come. Ta.

Thanks Least.
I think I have too, but if I haven't, you can be sure my first step will be to come running to SR for help.
