Other addictions !!!!
Really really wish I had gotten sober before creating a Facebook account. I basically specialised in only posting mortifying drivel on there while drunk.

I second this. Burned a lot of perfectly good bridges using Facebook while blind. Picked a lot of fights too :/
Advertising and marketing agencies use FB "likes" and shares in a "Big Brother" fashion to see what is trending to better promote/sell their goods. I rarely used FB but I am so happy to have quit my account last year. I don't want to be anybody's drone.
I'm becoming estranged from a friend both because she doesn't like that I no longer drink and that I am not on FB. She has a 1000+ "friends" and requests that we communicate via FB, rather than phone/email. How sad is that?
Yes, cross addictions are so common but can be dealt with in the same fashion as we address alcoholism. I concur with jdooner's recommendation of Gabor Mate's book In the realm of Hungry Ghosts. It was eye opening for me. I truly began to understand my addictive personality; it just made sense, psychologically and physiologically.
Good luck and keep on!
