81 Days Sober
This is the longest stretch of sobriety I've had 30yrs. Why did I wait so long!
I am just starting my journey but it sure feels great. No more hangovers, no more regrets, no more guilt, no stress of trying to control my drinking, no more ups and downs, always being in control and able to drive home.
A couple of things that I have experienced and that have helped me.
1. I made a long list of all the reasons I decided to quit. All of the benefits and all if the awful experiences and consequences of my drinking. I referred to these daily during the first 30 days.
2. I have openly addressed my sobriety with those closest to me.
3. Read everything I could get my hands on about alcoholism. One book that helped me was 'Quit The Drink Easily' by Jason Vale. This was a helpful tool for me.
4. Things have steadily improved with time. My cravings have disipated. Still have them but they are not as intense or as frequent. Thought about drinking 24/7 the first several weeks and didn't think it would disipate as others had suggested; but it has.
5. I joined SR and try and participate. It is a great way to stay connected.
So here I am taking the first steps of a long journey. Thank you for your support. I wanted to share my experience thus far; hope this post will be helpful to some.

So great for you, 30yr. I have 24 days and I feel so happy to have quit. Like you, I really feel much better, day and night. It's like a heavy burden has been lifted from my shoulders. Anyway, I am very happy for you and wish you great success on your new path. And one other thing you are right about: SoberRecovery.com is a great help!
