Unhappy New here. Long post. Tomorrow starts the work.

I'm 24, mother of 2 beautiful kids.

My mother, who for most of my young life was addicted to pills, came to live with me in September of last year. I picked her up from jail, where she had been for a month, detoxing from IV heroin use, on felony charges. She was homeless, & I offered her a safe place to stay until she could get back on her feet. I was elated to have my mom here, sober, spending time with me and her grandchildren (one of which was born just 2 months prior to her lockup). All was well.

At the end of October, she & I were in a car accident which left me in serious back pain following the accident. I sought medical attention, & was told the pain should get increasingly better with time, and given tramadol, along with some muscle relaxants and anti inflammatories. The tramadol had no effect on my pain, and I later found out from the pharmacist that it was not completely safe to take with my antidepressant I was already on for years.

I was given hydro/acetaminophen 5/500 & I finally got some relief.. Until my script ran out. I started dealing with it the best I knew how, & moved on. Then, in December, about a week before Christmas, my mother fell and broke her arm. It was an unstable fracture that couldn't be castes, and had to heal on its own. My mother was then given Percocet 7.5 for pain, & since I was still dealing with my back pain, she gave me some of her meds. I finally felt relief again.

She remained on narcotics for several weeks as prescribed by her ortho. About January 15, I was diagnosed with ovarian cysts that were rupturing left & right, after being diagnosed with endometriosis back in July. I followed my doctors orders and took aleve and everything else OTC to no avail. Long story short, I have chronic pain & nothing helps at all except a narcotic. I then started buying off the streets trying to make it through each day & be able to care for my children. I do not get high, in the least anymore. It just eases my pain.

Basically, I've reached a point where I'm done risking my safety, my marriage, my well being. So I've tapered as best I could over the past week with the 10 pills I had. I took my last 1/2 of a 10 mg norco an hour or so ago. Tomorrow starts the real work. I'm scared. I'm having slight flu like symptoms, along with low grade fever.. About 100 degrees F. Any tips or anything will be appreciated.

Sorry for the long post. Thanks for reading.

Ouch. You are too young for this, not to mention your young children. I'm sorry I have no advice. I'm sorry you had to turn to street drugs to handle your pain. Praying for your family.

I have chronic pain as a result of an accident too (although I fell of my horse). I've had 6 back surgeries in 4 years and have been in the ER innumerable times when I've been unable to walk due to pain. I have a neurostimulator which helps with the nerve pain to some degree and I take the maximum dose of gabapentin (for nerve regeneration). Still to this day it is a battle with pain. I've posted about this before. At times I just do not know what to do. I wish I had an answer for you. I don't. I've tried acupuncture, massage, and Reiko and other things to no avail. I hope to read some good responses here. I've never allowed myself to take opiates because I worry too much about becoming addicted but I also heard they are not really good for severe pain. Anyway, just wanted you to know you are not alone.

I too have endometriosis. The pain from this is something I cannot describe and can only say that I understand 100% what you are going through. I did have to seek out special treatment to have this pain remedied. There are options for you. I was swallowing more than 5000 mg of Ibuprofen a day to try to get the pain under control, and it never worked. A solid pain killer only worked for me. Have you talked with a specialist and sought out what options are available to you so that you can live your life? I am sorry that you are experiencing this and please know that you along with thousands of women have gone and are going through the same thing. My heart goes out to you.
