This is the hard part...
I really want to stop on my way home and get some wine. I have that hideous desire and craving. But, I am not going to. I am not going to drink today. I really can't tell you how much I detest this part of getting and being sober.
Hang in there! This too shall pass and you'll be stronger for it. Just remind yourself of how horrible you'll feel tomorrow if you drink tonight... and how good you'll feel in the morning if you don't.
It's hard.
Maybe think of activities you could do instead of drinking?
Tonight I am going to make a pot of banana custard. There is also a big book AA meeting in my town that I can go to if I feel restless. I'm not "in" the AA program, but it's there for folks who need it.

I understand completely! This can be so frustrating! The cravings will . pass. It is not a straight line unfortunately there are a lot of ups and downs with recovery. Hang in there.

I'm newly sober, I have 120 days today so I'm still a newbie but I just wanted to share this. Yesterday I was in the company of someone having a couple of glasses of wine. After two she started talking crap, then bloodshot eyes and getting a bit repetitive. After 3 when someone pointed out she was getting a bit merry she got all defensive and said the person was horrible.
You're better than that, pass that shop right by and leave the vino for others less fortunate than ourselves
Keep on keeping on!!

I found eating at 3 everyday helped a lot...blood sugar low that time of day...4to6, notices the happy hour bars then....I changed to four smaller meals per day, big difference...hope it helps. 8....11....3.....7....works well...also consider taking a natural sugar regulator like chia seed.....

I'm with Gleefan,
You need to find activities that you can really look forward to after work. Sometimes in early recovery we have to just white-knuckle the cravings and create new habits! Congrats on not giving in.... It gets much easier!

Well I made it home without any alcohol and now I am off to do chores, alcohol free. Thanks all. Your support makes a big difference to me. I was hungry so I should have had a snack and I do need to think of alternatives to my routine. Thanks.

Thanks for posting. I had the same experience on my way home from work and also was able to get through it today without giving in. Reading about experiences like yours give me courage to keep on going and stay on board with the group.
