Weight loss/fitness as motivation to stay sober?

I put on 40 pounds during my drinking career and have lost 15 since getting serious about being sober in October. I am finding that some days all that keeps me sober is the fear of gaining the weight back. Whatever it takes I guess!

Keep it going and in about 90 days you'll realize that your thoughts have gradually morphed from fear helps me not drink into I enjoy living sober because I can be the person I want to be.

But for today - whatever works!

It's a major motivator for me.

I know that the extra 500 - 1,000 calories per day stand between what I weigh now, and what I want to weigh.

I was definitely in the best physical shape of my adult life when I was sober for nearly six months. I'm stoked to be heading back in that direction again.

My health and fitness drive me too. Feeling good naturally is a gift that I do not want to take for granted.

The endorphins from exercise are your bodies natural high, that's why we get the good feelings once we've just finished a work out, include also the improved body image from weight loss raising self esteem and the increased metabolic rate giving us more energy the fitter we get......what's not to like

Why was I drinking again?

I think it definitely can help but I'd be wary of making it your sole motivation.
What happens if you injure yourself and can;t exercise for a few weeks? or you don't lose weight?

Make it a part of your recovery programme for sure, but not the entirety.

Weight loss is a nice side effect of sobriety, but it's what inside that really counts.
