Things achieved when sober.

Today I was hired as a full-time writer for a website that gets millions of view every day. This is a dream come true and something I could never achieve working drunk. I have sobriety to thank. I'd love to be able to share some writing with you but unfortunately that would undermine my anonymity.

What's the best thing you've achieved due to sobriety?

Congrats, MrBen! What a wonderful news!

As for me, last year I faced the pain that made me drink in the first place, gathered myself and started the most tough therapy sessions to heal my past wounds; resolved nasty real estate issues with my relatives; and finally purchased my own apartment!!!

And started boxing)

that's AWESOME!!!!

I'm starting to get energized behind a vision that has been shown to me in response to my asking for guidance recently in sobriety. I'm sure that what is already unfolding wouldn't have happened while I was drinking and that the things I am pursuing, am capable of and will be a part of would not be there if I were still in a haze of alcohol.

Congratulations on your writing gig!! I have long dreamed of that myself.... still telling myself "someday".

If you're serious about it, get in contact with various websites, it's fairly easy to get experience, the leap to it being your full time income is the tough part. But if you're determined it is doable.

thanks! I think the reason I'm not there stems from my lack of 'being serious' about it and my years of excuses and fears. I am getting closer.... I guess. I have taken some small steps toward sharing my writing online and in person in various forums and formats. I have some ideas both near and long-term and alongside my current career and being a single dad, I sense that I am sort of 'percolating' toward my eventual dream manifestation. Or maybe that's all further procrastination, lol.

In any case, the dream is still there and I think that over time, bit by bit and step by step, one day I will find myself in a position where I actually get paid for my writing. Perhaps not full time, but at least some of it.

Like MidnightBlue, I have also taken the time to work on the reasons I became depressed in the first place and used alcohol to cope. It is not easy, but necessary.

Congrats on the job!!!!

If you can manage two articles a week and get a fairly popular website to write on, then that's your start point right there. Websites encourage you to maintain and publicise your blog, so if you do a blog post and an article, the article will gather views for the blog post. It's then a case of building a viewer base for your work, which can take a couple of years before you can quit your job for writing. But once you get to that point it's a pretty well paid gig.

Well if you ever want anybody to look over an article while you're starting out, send it over.

Sobering up gave me the clarity to finally see that I have been deeply unhappy with my life for a very long time. I really don't know what I was living for so sobriety has given me the chance to do some soul-searching. I need a fresh start with new goals.

I seemed to have gotten an addiction to oxygen in sobriety.
