My first post

Hi there.
I'm basically here because I drink more than I should and I'm on a medicine I shouldn't drink much with. I ve been drinking quite a bit for about 10 years now and I really need to stop. I drink at least 4-5 shots most days. I'm sure that's nothing compared to others but I think it's too much. I'm having trouble stopping.

There is a big hurdle you will have to manuever, its called Day 1. No easy way about it. You might talk to your doctor and see if they can help make the process easier. You can join AA for further accountability. Or you can just start the journey with full brakes tomorrow.

You must make the decision to end the cycle and give sobriety a try. Welcome to SR Madness. Glad you reached out, it was a great move.

Hi and welcome madness

If you think it's a problem, it's a problem - drinking is not comparative sport

You'll find a lot of support here

Have you tried to stop before?

D

Welcome! Dee is right. Drinking isn't a comparative sport. My husband and I are both alcoholics but I would be dead if I drank the amounts he did. Yet we both ended up in the same place. If it is causing you problems, even if it were a thimble full, then you are in the right place if you want to stop.

Thanks for the warm welcomes :)

I did try to stop drinking before. Did good for about 2 weeks, when I started Wellbutrin. Now I drink like usual and have no side effects at all like other do on that medicine Thing is my sister drinks, close friends drink, and a few people at work drink. I drink at work most days. We keep saying it's too much but we have a hard time cutting it down.

Welcome, Madness.
I agree that if you think it's a problem and you've had a hard time "cutting down," it is time to put the breaks on. Good for you. This thing is progressive.
Lot's of help here on SR.

For what it's worth, I had a really rough withdrawal this last time, and I was only drinking 2 or 3 glasses of wine daily, but binging on weekends. For me it was a health decision mostly, but once I got sober I realized it was deeper than that. I wish you well.
