Alcohol, Coffee and Anemia
I am 36 days sober and just came from the doctor. I caught pneumonia about ten days ago, had to get over that with antibiotics, and the past couple days I've felt *terrible*.
I also have ongoing anemia which for other reasons I thought I had under control. But I went to the doctor today just to make sure I was all right. Everything was fine on the surface but she checked my blood and my iron count down to 9.6. That's pretty low.
So I just wanted to mention that if you have problems with anemia and you quit drinking, be aware of your blood iron count. Alcohol makes you absorb iron better and faster. If you stop drinking and you're like me and pound the coffee -- coffee inhibits the absorption of iron.
I just bought a bottle of iron with vitamin c, which also helps iron get absorbed --and a big cheeseburger and I hope that helps with some of my energy problems. But I just thought I'd mention this in case anyone else is anemic.
