Da! Winning! Weekend thread feb 28 - mar 3!
At my height I was blind to my addictions... To me it was... Da! winning!
Of course thats Charlie Sheens favorite line during his public meltdown.
But mine was not so public. Or at least I don't think it was.
So many of us suffer in private. A talented bunch able to act our way through life. Reasons for every day called in. Every missed event with loved ones.
Heck I even called in and said my father died. We were estranged and I rationalized that he owed me three days off of work for being such a bastard to me. So three days it was... Plus a weekend of untracked time.
Unmonitored and unfettered drinking and drugging.
Da! winning? Hell no. And for the record I hate that saying. It serves no purpose but to highlight addiction in our culture. And glorify it.
There can be and is a winner in all this. It's you and me. We are the ones making an effort today. I know that's true because I took the time to write this and you to read it. So by that act alone we want to get better. As simple as that is SR helps me daily.
Now let's put that desire into action this weekend. Friday, Saturday, Sunday. Stop in often. Say hello. Share if you like. Lurk if it helps.
It is not only possible to stay sober. It's possible to win at this.
And no... I won't be saying that phrase any more. I hate it.
Stay strong together!
Ken

Didn't he also used to use the phrase "Tiger Blood"?!
Well another Friday morning and another arrival at work, it's becoming a habit posting on this thread!!
This weekend I'm off work so gonna catch up on some much needed sleep (hangover free).
Might break out a few movies, my car is in need of a good wash and there's always some football to watch if I'm not feeling like doing much.
Let's do this everyone!!

I'm in for my 4th sober weekend......wife crashed her car this morning so lots of insurance stuff to sort tomorrow. Apart from that exercise and relaxing. Might even have a take-away from our local Indian to replace some of those calories and spend some of that money that isn't going on beer.
Good luck all

I am on my first weekend and am proud to say that I'm feeling fine, due in large part to my husband's support. And lookit--I'm currently on here, painting my toes, drinking tea, and NOT drinking. Woohoo! Go me. And all of you, of course
Lol Lady! When mecanix starts the thread he has 5 hours lead time on me. But I actually got up at 4am just to start this and went back to bed.
MarathonM and oki! Welcome! Be sure to update us on how you are doing and anything good to eat! We love the foods here! Except bacon, no one like that fatty gross greasy pig.
Both non and purple have 103 days today! Let's give a cheer for them!
Mags! Woo hoo! Good to see you!
I was worried the intro was negative. But nothing about the weekenders is! Such good spirit!

A bad cold that is starting to break makes me hopeful to being illness-free for the last days of my vacation. Being sick in sobriety is certainly different as I can actually feel the symptoms rather than drowning them as I did before with tons of alcohol. Glad to be here this weekend!
I'm in for a sober weekend. Getting my figurative running shoes on to get kids ready for school then me out the door to work. It is so cold here. Unceasingly and unwaveringly cold. I know I can't change the weather any more than I can change to a normal drinker.
This thread cheers me up though. And sober I feel your pain. I've had successive colds for a month now. No NyQuil for me which stinks. It was my magic elixir. And drowning the cold certainly made it more tolerable but at what after effect? It is now DayQuil for relief.
Must go or I will be on here forever. Thanks Ken for getting us started today. We can all do this together.

Weasel, great post. I read it and enjoyed it. I don't think too much of Charlie Sheen. The guy needs some help.
But anyhow .................. I woke up at 4:30 a.m. today. Too early, but feeling anxiety maybe from not drinking and just having too much to do. Getting up early helps though, I am getting more done this morning than I have in a long time.
Sober for TODAY (I posted in the 24 hour thread) and this weekend will be the first in a long time.
Go me and all of us!
