what brought me to recovery.,.

What first intially brought me into recovery and to admit I have a serious problem was a car accident I had, I used too much that day, I fell asleep driving on the expressway and I triple flipped a truck that wasn't mine, and like 10 hours after that I overdosed, my heart stopped several times in the waiting room at the hospital,, im very lucky to be here today, with that being said im clean today, still relapsing here and there, after going thru what I went thru , put my family thru hell youd think staying clean would be easy, but no its the hardest thing in life,.. I cant seem to get past 5 months clean,, but I will never quit quitting, jft I am clean. thanks

TS,

You will get the hang of it!
You learn how to deal with the waves...
It is not easy but Is possible to do it!

Need to learn the best way to deal for the urges...
Avoid places and situations that will triger you.
Change companies IMPORTANT.
Do changes in your life...
Pick up new hobbies...
I find Sport is the best to get through it...
come here every time you need support!
learn from the posts...
Get help if you can in NA or AVRT other place.
And lots of Support and love from your closed ones...
Etc. etc. etc.

Many of us have tried and failed many times.
But you get up and continue!!!

You are used to live leaning on drugs,
learn to live without crutches!

Best wishes in your recovery!!!

Well a couple things. I did stop attending meetings. I got comfortable working and keeping busy. And everytime I get laid off and have time on my hands I end up relpsing. I do need some hobbies.. I'm sick and tired of being sick and tired!!

I think having a sense of purpose is important, as is having support and using it, for sure. :)

Wow that car accident sounds intense...I'm so glad you are ok. And glad you chose recovery based on that incident. So you had 5 months? That's amazing :-) Did you work a program of recovery during that time? What did you do then to keep busy?

I also went through a devestating crash you are not alone. Unfortunately it just fuelled my use. But I have tasted recovery too and I too am on and off, but clean for today. Let's make it a clean 24 ok friend?

TS247 03-04-2014 11:34 AM

After the accident. I quickly got a gym membership. Started gaing lots of muscle :) and shortly after I got a job to keep busy. And on the little spare time I had ixwent to na meetings. Metclots of greatcpeople there.. actually. The love of my life I met at a meeting. Everything happens for a reason. Maybe all the devastating events were supposed to happen To finally find the woman for me. And I will not regret anytging. I'm happy to have gone thru all that I did.. jft oh yes! How often do u attend meetings Open?

opentorecieve 03-04-2014 01:38 PM

I attend at least 2 meetings per week these days. It's hard for me to fit them in because I don't live in the city and I'm not trusted to go alone. But going out of my way to make it possible right now in my life I need them so badly. I'm on, I'm off but I BELIEVE in recovery and the 12 steps. They do work, if you keep coming back.
Have you considered going back to meetings? Finding a sponsor?
I agree with you that everything in life happens for a reason and I wouldn't take any of my turbulent times back because I've learned so much and continue to...
Life is a beautiful struggle. You can do this! Go back to the gym, go to meetings. If this has worked for you in the past jump right back in! One day I too will reach 5 months clean and beyond.
