Starting IOP Monday - really need words of encouragement
Starting IOP Monday - really need words of encouragement
I'm not going to lie. Inpatient would probably be best for me but due to responsibilities to my kids and my business, next best thing is IOP which I start on monday.
It's Mon-Fri, 9am-1pm for five weeks with an additional requirement of (5) AA meetings per week. Drive time will be about two hours per day. So this is 7 hours per day, basically (while still trying to run my business and raise my kids).
Please encourage me to go because my AV is so strong at this point...

Congrats, you are making a great choice and the time spent will be well worth it. Think of how many hours a day we spent hung over, drink, drinking or worrying about drinking and those hours of IOP don't really seem all that far off. Go with an open mind and take advantage of all you will learn.
After facility detox, I did IOP. I went from 9:00 - 4:00 every day for three weeks, then went from 9:00 - 12:00 for another three weeks. I'd go to work at 1:00 to kind of ease myself back into a normal life.
I really enjoyed both my detox time and the IOP. I learned a lot and made a couple of good friends in the process. We still talk and encourage each other after 5 years.
This is a great gift you are giving yourself. But, like anything else, you'll get out of it whatever you're willing to put into it. I suggest you become a sponge and absorb as much as you can. It really does help you once you get back out into the world and don't have that safe bubble to live in anymore.
Good luck! You can do this! (((HUGS)))

Dont worry. You will get something out of it. Ive been to out patient and in patient (lol)and only the first few days are a little awkward. Everyone else will be feeling the same way. Each was helpful. It gives you time to really focus on you.

Hi Greeneggsandham, I don't usually post, but I just had to tell you, give it your all, or at least a chance! My RAD went, and graduated! The hours are tough and long, but if you go with a positive attitude, a willingness and desire to be sober...well the program DID work for my daughter. She is young (19) but was a heavy H user. She has been sober for 6 months and counting now. Give it a fair try, ok? You can do it!
Yeah,
Carrying the life load and rehabbing is tough. Not going is tougher. Failing is toughest. That penalty is death.
How do we do it? We get by with a little help from our friends.

I completed an 8 week IOP and then continuing care for another 5 months and got a lot out of it. Lots of hours and it was exhausting at times, but the people were great and I learned so much about my addiction and myself. Go into it with an open mind and a determination to finish the program and you'll do fine. Everyone there is in the same boat as you, some much worse, and everyone is nervous and hesitant about being there, too. I wish you much luck.
Stay strong!

IOP was one of the things that saved my life, along with inpatient rehab and AA. Yes, the hours are a significant commitment, but I managed to make it work, along with a 60 hour work week and 90 meetings in 90 days. When it's a matter of life and death, which this disease most definitely is, you do what you have to do one day at a time.
I was supposed to go for a couple of months but stayed for 6 months until my counselor started hinting that I didn't need to go anymore. I really didn't want to leave lol.
I'll have a year sober next month.
Good luck!
