Hello...I am brand new to this forum and need advice. I am going to detox and then intensive outpatient rehab. I have a business out of my home and I need to tell my clients that I need a week off really soon. Usually I give them a four to six week notice but I can't wait that long to start my journey. I am not ready to disclose the reason why so I am at a loss on what to tell them. Suggestions?? TIA

Tell them whatever you like, I think.

Personal reasons ? Medical reasons? unforeseen circumstances?

The main thing is to get yourself to the help you need - you can sort out other things later

I'd say medical reasons as you're going to detox for medical treatment of your addiction. Regardless, it's up to you what you tell them.

I recently did the same (inpatient then day program). I didn't give my employer any specifics...just that I needed some time off to take care of some medical issues. They were understanding and didn't ask any questions when I came back to work other than "Welcome Back" or "we missed you"...I've been back to work over a month now and everything is normal...like I was never gone at all. Thank you so much for responding. I am very leery to telling the truth to my clients at this time. I have a personal relationship with each of them and I am worried about the questions they will have. I am supposed to hear back tomorrow from the recovery center I am going to. There are insurance issues with in-patient vs out-patient and the nurse wants me in-patient (I am approved for out-patient). Much love to all of you and wish you all well.
