New Comers Message Having a very hard time right now. Have not had a drink since Wednesday 02/19/2014. But the shakes and the accelerated heart rate have me freaking out. My brain just keeps saying - go have one pint of beer - That will make it all better. But I know it won't. If I drink I will lose my job and room. That's all I have left. I've lost my husband, kids, house, car, was involved in DUI last Monday. I'm screwed and I don't know how to stop drinking. Meetings work ok, my sponsor isn't very good. I need a new one. Thanks for letting me rant. I look forward to reading some other posts of success and what works for you all. As I find the tools I will share too.:a108: |
There are a lot of helpful people here. I'm sorry to hear about what you have lost, but there is always time to turn things around. I hope all goes well for you. Get better soon, k? -Ryan |
Thanks Ryan. I am trying, it's so hard right now. How are you? |
Welcome to a very friendly supportive site. We are here to help you get sober. :) |
I am sorry you are going through this. It is rough. Good job on not drinking since Wednesday. Whatever you do, don't drink now. I did rehab after detox. That worked for me. If you are really having a rough time I would recommend going to the doctor or the emergency room. Pace the floor. Call someone. You have too much to lose. You can do it. |
:welcome to the family and if you keep being sick promise us you will get to the hospital. You could have a seizure from withdrawals. Meetings work ok, my sponsor isn't very good. In the interim, we have a 24 hours chat room here were you can always find support and I also hope you will join us at the 24 hours club where we commit not to drink or drug for the next 24 hours. It s a fun way to hold ourselves accountable and before you know it, those days do add up :) http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ml#post4487200 |
The seed of recovery has been planted since you have been exposed to a recovery program already. It will take a willingness and openmindedness to follow thru each day you stay sober. All you have to do is stay sober and not drink poison one day at a time. I listened to a many a suggestions over the yrs. and used them to my own purpose. If many of those that have learned to stay sober each day, then I could do just by following in their foorsteps as they lead the way. I did whatever I needed to do each day to remain sober for a many one days at a time to get e where I am today. Recovery is not just not drinking, but living a better way of life without drinking. Look upon those at meetings and seek someone out and ask if they could be ur temporary sponsor until you find one you feel comfortable working with. They will happily give you their number or meet you for coffee to chat or at meetings so you wont ever have to be alone on ur recovery journey. |
Mimi, Welcome and I'm sorry you're going through a tough time right now. We really do understand how hard this is. |
Welcome Mimi |
Hi Mimi welcome to SR, stick with it, it does get easier, it's just our bodies rebelling, not giving them what they're used to. Before long you will find you are in control not the alcohol. |
Welcome, early days are a bit of a drag, There is a movie I used to watch about a couple of dudes who had a few ideas about "quitting" the drink...,the movie helped me, real life history of alcoholism in a nutshell I guess My Name Is Bill W. (TV Movie 1989) - IMDb Enjoy.., |
Thanks everyone. I am supposed to meet up with an AA group tonight for a "night out" questioning if I should go. No one else is going to like seeing me this way. Thanks for the link to the chat room and Pete = thank you for the link to the movie. I'm going to see if Amazon has it. Urgent Care said go to the ER - ER is $100. Boy - I wouldn't wish this on anyone. |
Hi Mimi You'll find a lot of support and ideas here, but the bottom line is its up to you and what you're prepared to do for your recovery. If you've been advised to go to the ER, I'd do it. Work out the bill later. D |
Welcome Mimi and you are right a beer will not make anything right. Please go to ER they will help you at this difficult time, you can do this and you are helping me an alcoholic posting here. Hope you stick with it, it has removed so much and it wants to remove you, don't let it xx |
I'm glad to meet you Mimi. I was in desperate condition when I found SR - but I found the courage to change by being here & sharing my thoughts. You're among friends who really care and understand. You can rebuild your life and never go back to that dark place. |

Welcome Mimi. Keep at it and you will feel better in no time xxxx |
welcome mimi, deep breath, most of us in here have felt the fear and disparity of putting the bottle down. it does get better in time. there's is a group of people here that care. that have endured and came out the other side. not that they're healed, but continuing on a journey so much more satisfying that the one we were on. you can do it, you're here, no matter how hard it is to believe it, it truly is your choice. I'm rooting for you. |
The shakes and bounding heart do go away. Also, AA understands withdrawal, they will watch you blossom. You can beat this and change your life for the better. Welcome to SR mimi! |
Welcome! Hope you made it out with your AA group. Lean on them right now. |
