Take no prisoners .. stay sober weekend thread! Feb 21-23.

Definition:
If someone takes no prisoners, when they try to achieve something they are very determined and do not care about other people's feelings.

Really? Do not care about other peoples feelings?

I drink because I care very much about other peoples feelings. More than my own.

So what's right and what's wrong here?

I know this.... The only prisoner is me.

I care very much about other peoples feelings.... And....

I am trying to achieve something....

So how do I accomplish both?

Ever heard the words "put your sobriety first?"

I have and it makes it tricky. But here is what I learned....

Putting my sobriety first does not mean putting someone else's feelings last.

It actually means putting others first.

When I am at my best... Sober... I can really put all my heart into it. I can actually help.

Saying NO to ME today is saying YES to whatever I set my mind too.

So take no prisoners this weekend.

Let nothing stand in the way of your sobriety.

And in turn you get to care very much about those you love.

yeah sign me up

Marcher13 02-21-2014 01:54 AM

Ken that is really cleverly written and so true! Thank you. I'm signing up for a sober weekend along with my fellow Aussie Vandermast. I'm saying no to drinking, yes to caring about others. I'm going to cook for some friends, bake for my family and then find some time to work out for me.

Renarde 02-21-2014 02:19 AM

I'm in too. It is the weekend of reflecting for me!

Nonsensical 02-21-2014 03:38 AM

I have 4 pounds of bacon for the weekend, so there isn't enough for any prisoners. Maybe I should have bought enough to share?

:ring

Fandy 02-21-2014 03:51 AM

I heard on tv that 43% of men surveyed prefer bacon over sex.:lmao
who KNEW?

Nonsensical 02-21-2014 03:55 AM

You can put bacon on sex? I've just been putting them over eggs.

The weekend thrills just went to a whole new level. :)

Nicecupoftea 02-21-2014 04:21 AM

Brilliant motivation for the weekend ahead, thank you Weasel! I have a potentially boozy weekend away to the country with a bunch of (boozy!) friends so it's going to take all my will-power and self-belief to keep saying "no" and meaning it, but I'm feeling positive, even more so after reading your post, and know I CAN do it!

Bring on a clear-headed and fun-packed weekend for us all! :a122:

I'm in. Still groggy from sleep. Bacon. Nonsensical, this month's Food Network cooking magazine is devoted to all things bacon. I thought of you when I saw it.

I've been thinking about what is keeping me from drinking. Mainly fear but that isn't the best deterrent since the memories of fear and pain fade over time. Then I'm left being restless, irritable and discontent. I need to put more "zing" into my recovery so that I enjoy the gifts of each new day instead of dreading the rat race. Call those people in sobriety whose numbers I have in my phone in addition to going to meetings.

Sorry to go all deep this morning but these are my usual morning feelings and I am tired of them and need to get them out of my head and onto virtual paper.

So I'm in for a sober weekend. Of fun and contentment. Cheers all and happy Friday!

I'm in! It's my daughter's birthday weekend and I'm putting her happiness this weekend over my desire to get tanked.

Oh speaking of bacon...I found a new recipe to try. Chicken strips (sprinkled with garlic and chili powder) wrapped with bacon and rolled in brown sugar, then baked. =)

InTheEnd 02-21-2014 04:35 AM

Bacon!!

I'm in too. Have a great weekend ya'll!

aasharon90 02-21-2014 04:44 AM

Fandy.....:)

I'm not into guns, but I will take my
Sobriety and definitely the Cannoli....

In fact I just bought 2 large Cannoli's
and have them in the freezer waiting
for me to enjoy. :)

newme2day 02-21-2014 04:50 AM

Hey all!! Count me in . . .the kids are having friends over tonight. Hopefully tomorrow will just be rest and relaxation. Thanks for the awesome post weasel!

Stomper 02-21-2014 04:52 AM

Did somebody say Bacon??? I'm in for the weekend...

Weasel1966 02-21-2014 05:01 AM

Nicecup.... You can absolutely do this!

Ruby.... Go easy on yourself. Heavy thoughts stay with me all the time. I try to stick with not drinking and allow my thoughts to be what they are. I try to just watch them go by so they don't take me down. :)

Green eggs! That's a cool recipe!

Lots of festive weekenders this week! So glad to see each of you join in!

Bacon.
