New to this board
Hello all,
I've been to this board before, but not for quite some time. I remember how
often I used to come here just to read the posts when I was really new in
recovery. I just wanted to introduce myself because I hope to come back
often and participate a little more.
I was sober 2 years when I made the choice to drink on one occasion and
started afresh. I am now 9 months sober and the quality of my sobriety is
so much better than it was the first time around. I spent so much time
fighting what was suggested to me, but I try my best to be open-minded
today. For anyone who has experienced a recent relapse, please: don't leave before the miracle happens. That miracle could be you. Go to meetings. Get a sponsor. Call him or her. Just for today, don't drink. Keep it simple. Ask your HP for help in the morning, and give thanks at night. Get outside help if you need it (I did). If you can't read the Big Book, try 3 pages a day. That's what I do and it helps.
Life still has it's ups and downs today. I still have a hard time letting go of
situations that cause considerable pain, i.e. my exhusband's control of our
daughters. But I know one thing for sure: drinking isn't going to make this situation any better. Once an alcoholic, always an alcoholic.
Thanks for letting me share a little here today.
