Hello Everyone

Hi everyone, my name is David, and I'm just going to be honest from the get go. I am an alcoholic. I drink wine every night before I go the sleep, and I often drink too much when I go out. Just this past weekend, I got so drunk that I was escorted out of the casino at which we were hanging out at. I have been feeling so ashamed because of it since. I feel like trash, like someone that is not deserving of the good things in life. I also have a son who is thirteen, and I know that I cannot lose him because of my drinking. I hate the life that have lived in the past few months, and I want to change. I hope that I can find some support in this forum. Thanks.

Hi Davy - welcome
You'll definitely find support here

Do you have any ideas on how you'll stay sober?

Hi Dee, sorry I did not see the second part of your post. I really don't have any ideas. The only thing I can think of right now is the focus on my son's well being and not hang out with my friends as much. Do you think you might have some other ideas?

Yeah, the first time that happens we are all ashamed and embarrased. Then it happens again, and again and it becomes normal. I can attest to the fact that booze is not a good thing in life. Its a destroyer. We can have fun in sobriety. Its not the end of the world. Man, I came from car wrecks, causing carnage on the roads, mental institutions, prison, hospitals, sleeping in my own puke, pooing my own pants multiple times. Let me tell you the first time pooing in my pants, I was embarrassed, more so then your Casino exit. The second time, I knew what to do and I wasnt embarrased at all. I have travelled and seen the world. Been to meetings all over the globe. Laughed my A%^ off at meetings, shed a few tears at meetings. Been to funerals of members who thought they werent that bad. This disease affects a huge portion of society. Major corperations in their Human Resources department will expect 10 to 20% of their employees to have a problem with a substance. People die from this disease all the time, car accidents, liver failure, accidents, murder, homicide, suicide, choking on their own puke. Very deadly disease.

I think changing what you do on the weekend is a good start, and your little boy will be a great positive motivation too

Checking in here regularly is a great idea too.

We have a Class of February support thread too you can check out and join if you like:

http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...art-2-a-6.html

Others use real life support as well like AA pr some other recovery group,. or counselling...some go to their Dr and get some ideas from them

Hi Davy and welcome I was in exactly the same boat as you: wine every night. You can stop, if I did then I know you can. Read around SR, post often and change your routine, sobriety is great.

Welcome Davy, ensuring your son has his dad in his life and a great role model is a wonderful motivator. As I have learnt from all the great people here on SR just get thru each 24 hours to start and don't plan too far ahead. Talk to someone, it somehow seemed less scary to me when I saw a counsellor and I didn't feel so isolated. Well done on being here. Let us know you go x

Hi davy,

Just wanted to say Welcome to SR, so glad you found us.
I also had no idea what my plan was a year ago ~ so I stayed here.
Listened, talked, took advice...it helped me to start changing my life.
And it was the smartest decision I ever made.

Wishing you all the very best,

Love Venus xx

Welcome to the family. You'll find lots of support here. I've stayed sober over four years now with the help of my addiction counselor and this site. I hope the support here can help you get sober for good.
