I agree with that. I was talking with another friend in recovery and we were saying how when you break it down very simply, it's this -- we don't drink. That one thing, that's what we have to do to accomplish this goal. Don't drink. There are no shades of gray (when we are finished with denial and hopes of moderation someday), no "should I?" It's clear, it's a no-brainer, it's simple: Don't drink.

It doesn't mean it isn't the hardest thing we've ever done. But it does mean in the lottery of **** that the universe can throw at us, it's got a solution that millions of people have found success with. It's got a solution that brings people like all of us together to work as a team.

Every single one of us has demons to fight and pasts that haunt and barriers to overcome. This is one of ours. While I can't say I'm happy to have it -- it reminds me of the quote that goes something like "If we all threw our problems in the middle, allowing us to see everyone else's, we'd be pretty quick to grab our problems right back."

My favorite thing about being sober is waking up feeling good.
