Just ate a brownie with alcohol in it

With today being Valentine's Day, there has been no shortage of snacks around the office. I was making my rounds and sampling all the treats and came across some brownies. I took a huge bite and realized there was a lot of alcohol in them that had clearly not been even partially cooked down.

I didn't think to be on the lookout for such a thing being I am at work. The taste of it in my mouth just brought back a rush of bad memories. I'm sure whoever brought them in didn't think to make some type of note about there being alcohol in it since most people wouldn't think twice about something like that. for me, it definitely made me very uncomfortable. I left the brownies behind and quickly poured myself a cup of coffee and moved on. After over three months sober, I'm not about to get derailed by a brownie!

I know, right! It didn't even cross my mind to be watchful of a brownie.

Mine always had pot in them.

This case was one where it was better to be offered first.
They used to always bring those rum balls in here around Christmas to the office. I could catch a buzz from them

I cannot imagine how alcohol would improve the taste of brownies. Good grief!

I've been fed pot brownies. The person thought it was funny not telling me. They masked the flavor by using heavy spices like nutmeg.

We have to become the experts. We have to abstain 100% from ALCOHOL. Alcohol never cooks off, it actually concentrates. Accidents can and do happen. That is why getting a HP is critical, its what the Big Book is about. Because when we are close to Him, he keeps us safe. Look at it this way, its a God Shot. To keep you on your toes. Perhaps God is saying you are slacking on the God stuff, maybe its time to redouble your efforts on this thing called sobriety.

No. Curious why or even how you believe that to be true.

I am thinking about 2 episodes, one on
Two And A Half Men, when the girl Alan
was dating, her mom made pot brownies
and Alan didn't know it and just thought
they tasted nutty and the girls mom and
him were caught in bed together.....a hippie
situation. lol

Then there was one on Big Bang Therory....

Where 3 of the guys were star gazing and
one went away for a few minutes to return
with some baked brownies or cookies, also
tasting good, then all three began getting,
high, silly, and extremely hungry with the
munchies.....lol

Anyway.....I worked in a bakery for awhile
and oh my gosh, they saturated their fruit
cakes with liquor. I had to catch them before
the pouring because they were good.

Ugh, must've been kind of a scary experience Zelda! I wouldn't have thought about boozy brownies either. Hope that taste went away fast.

It definitely does cook off. I've cooked so many recipes with white cooking wine and fed them to my family. A lot of pasta sauces in restaurants have wine in them. If the alcohol was still there you'd have to have an ID to order it!
I am also very confused as to why anyone would put alcohol in brownies?! That sounds disgusting!

Don't worry about it - you didn't intend to eat it, and you only took one bite. The actual amount of alcohol you ingested ( regardless if any "burned off " or not) is very, very minute. Enjoy the rest of your valentines day!

Yes, the amount of alcohol remaining will never reach zero. It can be made to be less than any concentration number you choose however. It can be less that what's in your morning OJ, or less than what's in fresh fruit, or less than what's in a bottle of snapple. All of these things are true. Some folks just balk at all of these things because of the trace amounts of alcohol in them. Some just balk at some of them. All of this is OK. We each need to figger this out for ourselves.

But how can it 'concentrate'? If this were true, I sure would have loved to know how to do that while I was drinking.

Get fed up these days as so much food has Alcohol in it,takes me ages to do my supermarket shop, checking ingredients in everything.

I think this is pretty harsh. The OP accidentally took a bite of a brownie which had alcohol in it.

HP, AA and God are not the only way of getting sober and telling the OP this happened because she is slacking on the God stuff is very unfair imo

Alcohol in a brownie? Sounds gross. Not sure why someone would do that.

On a side not, yes alcohol usually does not burn out 100% when used in cooking, but it can get to a point where the amount is trivial and would never get you drunk. I've worked in several restaurants where wine or vodka was used in a sauce.

Kahlua or chocolate liquor is an ingredient in in lots or cakes or brownies, used for flavoring...about 2 ounces in an entire cake or batch of brownies.
it might have also been flavored coffee creamer that just mimics the taste
it's quite tasty and I've never been concerned about it.

But if it bothers you and triggers something it was just a mistake, don't worry about it

Beware of chocolate truffles.

At about the 3 month period someone gave me a vodka soaked tomato as a surprise , It sure was ! i nipped to the gentlemen's room and washed out the taste from my mouth it was horrible … wrecked a nice tomato …

I didn't intend to do it , i didn't cram the whole jar in my mouth or go on a mad binge , I'm just careful nowadays and 2 years on from the incident i'm mostly content , and still sober .

Keep on

Bestwishes, m
