30 Day Challenge!

From today I'm making a commitment to stay sober for 30 days. It will be the longest I have ever stayed sober since starting to drink 20+ years ago. This will take me up to the 14 March (I think?). On that date, the challenge will roll over and start again. Is anyone with me?

Good luck to both of us

Brilliant, thanks. I have 4 days (nearly) so it will be slightly longer for me too. Oh well, even better!

Great but even though your first goal is 30 days, please tell yourself only for today I will not take that drink. To me sometimes staying in the day or moment helps a lot. Good luck you will feel amazing.

Yeah, that is true. It's going to be 30 days taken one minute at a time.

Good stuff. You can do this! Rooting for you!

Maybe we could run an experiment. We get two people to commit to 30 days of sobriety. One of them spends his/her 30 days making changes that will enable a satisfying sober life. The other spends 30 days not drinking, but not making any other changes. At the end of that 30 days they can compare notes and give us all a report.

James! I know you and Marathonman, are going to do this James. Don't make a fuss about it, don't pressure yourself. Make it a fun thing, because that's what sobriety is. A mantra does wonders too. Find one that works for you...repeat it over and over when you need to, scream it out if you have to, I did, it really works. After all the urge is only a THOUGHT

Wait until others join you now. Yippppppieee

This song just came to mind.....

I Can See Clearly Now

I can see clearly now the rain is gone
I can see all obstacles in my way
Gone are the dark clouds that had me down
It's gonna be a bright bright bright bright sun shiny day
It's gonna be a bright bright bright bright sun shiny day

Oh yes I can make it now the pain is gone
All of the bad feelings have disappeared
Here is that rainbow I've been praying for
It's gonna be a bright bright bright bright sun shiny day

Look all around there's nothing but blue skies
Look straight ahead there's nothing but blue skies

It's a great start James and I hope you feel better soon

I hope you use this as a start to a sober life and don't count the 30 days down though and then go out on a bender on the thirtieth day as a 'reward'

nonsensical - you're signature is so right.....it was one of the things I used to think to myself...if i can moderate so well why do I seem to start thinking about the amount I'll drink tonight on the way to work in a morning.

The way I'm feeling, that would be a huge waste of thirty days worth of effort. But yeah, I get your point.

Sounds like a great plan James. Are you trying anything else different this time from a support standpoint ( other than this thread- which is a good idea of course ).
