Starting over

I'm starting over today. When I first decided to quit a few weeks ago I went five days. Then even when I drank, it wasn't everyday so I thought I was getting better. Well I suffered Monday and Tuesday at work this week feeling like crap. I hate it. If I drink 1 beer, I want 10. I'm realizing that I may never be able to have 1 beer, which is kind of scary but I don't know why. The pain in my back ( I have no injuries, there shouldn't be any reason for this pain) is a reminder of why I need to quit now. When I first stopped drinking a few weeks ago, my back didn't hurt! Hurts like crazy when I'm hungover. I just got my insurance, so after a few weeks sober, I'm going to start seeing a dr. We're about to have a snow storm here so I hope I can get through these days at home without drinking.

Welcome back Jillian

It took me years to learn it was the first beer than got me drunk not the 15th.

It can be scary to think of never again - if it helps just thinking in terms of today, then do the same tomorrow and so on.

And if you have insurance now, why not see your Dr right away?

Hi Jillian- Im like you, can't have just one. I actually only drank once or twice a week most of the time, I just couldn't stop once I started. I tried everything in the world to moderate or drink responsibly, especially at special functions/events and nothing ever worked, except abstaining.

Dee, I guess the real reason I wanted to wait a few weeks is because I'm scared to see any damage I've done....

The bad news is that addicts sometimes relapse.

The good news is that relapsers sometimes recover.

Welcome back to the fight of your life.

Jillian, I'm glad you're back. And, it's normal to be scared about going to the dr.

Jillian - I drank all my life and I'm 6 yrs. sober. I know you can do this - and you'll feel so much better being free of it. Proud of you for coming back to try again. Never give up.

yeah I know - it's a common thought and it's your call...

but if there is damage? it may not get better on its own or in a few weeks and it probably needs attention now, not later.

If there is no lasting damage - which is far more likely - see someone now and you don't torture yourself for weeks wondering what horror is instore for you ?
