Still sober with support

I'm on day 9 and if it weren't for my husband I would have fallen off a few days ago. The voice was so loud yesterday, it was almost all I could think about after 3pm, he took a walk with me and talked me down. My husband has been key to my recovery. I hate that I need a "babysitter" but if that's what it takes to keep me sober, I will take it. This forum has been such a key outlet for me as well. I can discuss things on here that I can't discuss with him. Thank you all and here's to a successful day 9

Congratulations on your 9 days, may they continue in good health. Most people in recovery identify with the screaming voice wanting us to try it again for various reasons we invent. I fortunately was taught to avoid listening to it by focusing on any thoughts involving anything without alcohol in them. Say today it might involve building strength to overcome the snow banks at the end of the driveway and being able to go out to dinner etc. ANYTHING.

BE WELL

Well done on day9 - you've got all those niggly naggly horrid first days withdrawals behind you

The withdrawls are gone but that damn voice is such a smooth talker. I won't listen to it! I feel so much better. I feel like I'm catching up on a year's worth of lost sleep and I wake up feeling so rested and fresh. I can't go back now, sobriety feels too good

I found that writing down that first week - what I felt and went through (eg bathroom was my best friend) helps further down the line. It's a bit like childbirth - you forget how bad it was til u do it again

Hey Jill, I'm on day 11, and have had some similar experiences. My wife is very supportive just like your husband seems to be. I actually asked my wife to hold me accountable this time. Previously she was reluctant to play that role, so in a sense she had been enabling me. Nevertheless I think I would've failed if it weren't for her.

I don't like the word "babysit" but I think many of us on here need extra support from our loved ones; especially in the early days!

Nothing wrong with a babysitter. You're lucky actually. I would love it if my husband could be supportive in a loving, non-judgmental way.
