how do you relapse after several months or even longer ...
welcome to SR natlaw!
I can't stress enough how much honesty with yourself and playing out the tape helps immensely in sobriety. It's been a crucial tool in my success this time. That tape never ends well and if my mind tries to make it be so I know I'm trying to lie.
It took me many times trying to quit to figure out that that I could never trust what I thought would happen when I drank. Even if I got away with being ok with it a few times. As long as I don't drink I can be sure I'm not going to have to deal with that aftermath.
Another thought process that helps. When my head starts to contemplate "I'll never drink again" which we all know is a scary thought I quickly replace it with "I'm never going to have to wake up again and wonder what the hell madness and destruction I left in my wake from the night before". The second thought process is much more pleasant.
