New person seeking help

Hey my name is Jorik, i have never done this before but i think i need help.
after reading easyway to stop smoking i stopped smoking.. after that i thaught ok now i buy the easyway to stop drinking. it lasted 3 days. I normally drink about 1-2 bottles of wine a day after work and i want to stop.. my biggest question is how to cope with being bored from 5-8.. None of my friends drink but i rather take those 7 glasses of wine then going out

Welcome, Congratulations on giving up the cigarettes.
I read the book as well and loved it.
The 5-8 thing is a big one for many people, it is where I started drinking as well, although mine was 8ish to 11 (work)
Breaking that habitual cycle in the early days is difficult but just as it has become automatic to go and fill a wine glass at 5ish it be become automatic not to.
Make a plan that you will do something else at 5. Something that you like.

Glad you joined us Jorik! Be proud of yourself for wanting a better life.

Being bored early in recovery is common. We have to learn to live in a whole new way & it takes time to get used to our 'new normal'. I hope it'll help you to be here. It really helped me with anxiety in the early days - to read and post.

Welcome,
Glad you're here. You want to stop;do you have plan drawn out on how to accomplish that? There's great support n love here but in addition need "tangible" help. If get to the conclusion that identify as an alcoholic which I proudly say I am, aa might work just as it has wonderfully done for me

Welcome Jorik

I found support really helps - and you'll find a lot of support here

If you can't think of something different to do from 5-8 you can always post here, read around, or chat in the chat room?

D

I'm over 5 mo. Now....but put in many "bored and anxious 4pms" I've tried many things to fill the void. Know matter what I tried all I wanted to do was sit, drink and relax..well, I Ifound a special new glass, tried a variety of drinks, presently love cranberry lemon aid on the rocks..love I can have happy hour, drink as much as I want and as fast as I want...and feel good later..

Welcome, Jorik! Wine was my drug of choice, too. AVRT is what finally allowed me to quit drinking; do a search online for it if you're interested. I went from drinking 3 bottles of wine every night to not drinking at all. It's been about 16 months now that I've been sober.

Boredom is a challenge! Drinking is a way to pass the time but there are other, better ways to entertain yourself.

My worst time for boredom is between 3:00 and 5:00 in the afternoon. I got several math books and occupy my time by solving math problems. I find the need to concentrate takes my mind off wine and I am getting better at math too. Mind you, I'm still not very good: at math that is!

The boredom is the worst. I'm on day 6 of my recovery and my house is spotless and I started baking again. I've also been taking lots of walks, it passes the time and releases those much needed endorphins. Welcome to the group, it has been integral to me beginning my recovery.

Funny, I have cleaned things I never thought could get dusty! Watch the baking! I fell head long into rewarding myself with food and sweets! For many years I had given up sweets , however over the holidays I went crazy....started to regain the weight I had lost my first mo..feeling so much more relaxed now that I don't need the sugar fixes "as much"
