Day 1 over and over again
Hi there.
I've been drinking regularly probaly every other day with weekends being very heavy starting at 8 or 9 the morning over the last 2.5 years. I've had many attempts at sobriety usually making it to 3 days sober then back to my old ways. I want to be sober and hate drinking but have realized I need help and probaly can't do this on my own.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated

You've come to a good place for support in getting sober. Do you have any sort of plan in place to stay sober? Would you consider going to AA or another recovery program? I stay sober with the help of SR and my addiction counselor. But even tho I'm sober over four years I still have to be on guard in case my inner alcoholic tries to get me back into that dark hole.
There's a lot of support here so keep reading and posting.
Welcome. I can only suggest you read and post here because the suggestions given are helpful to so many. Can you speak to your doctor about it? Just look around the forum and see if you can decide on a plan for yourself. Many of us have been in the same place as you and nobody judges. I hope you get well soon. Take care and stick around xxxx
Welcome John
Regular posting and reading here really helped keep me focused
Why not join our Class of February support thread too?

Hey thanks for the replies.
Plan is to keep checking in here regularly also going to find a counselor to help me. Have been reading up on avrt aswell so am going to use that too.
Also need to keep myself busy as boredom seems to be a big trigger for me.
Thanks dee I'll do that

Hello, and welcome.
I drank just like you for many years. I see myself in your post.
As the alcoholism worsened I would drink at 8am, too. Shots of whiskey, then beer all day.
Also like you, I could never make it past three days. That fourth day was killer.
Felt better, looked better and the hangover was gone and hey! I can drink again.
This level of drinking went on for a few years, although I've been an alcoholic for twenty years, until the hangovers became unbearable.
The fear, anxiety and remorse were overwhelming. It was a waking nightmare and I was no longer living. I was exsisting.
I finally sought help in AA and I've been sober for over three years now.
You can do it, too. Whichever program you may choose. I hope it works for you, and it can be done, I'm living proof.
Coming here helps me greatly, too.
Best to you on your journey to recovery.

Do you have friends or family to support you? It does help to have even one person who you can talk to.
And this place has been my support. As Dee says join the Class of Feb, but also check out the other cool threads, practically one for every interest!
