progression

Question for all...is there a general timeframe for progression of drinking....I found once I owned a restaurant, mine progressed from weekends to nightly...not always drunk, but having brews nightly...sold biz and away from taps...major difference...but my own progression was over 25 years really...looking back...

I'm not sure there's a general progression timetable Little Rhody...everyones different.

I do think that once we start to lose control/spiral down, that progression is a quick one...

I agree. Even though it was always bad the longer I drank the less time it took for it to evolve. I would say that the level of the madness in the last 7 months of my drinking was exponentially worse than the progression the entire time I drank. I had no idea every time I drank where I would end up, what I would do or say, and who I would be. I also didn't care.

So thankful that's all over with!

I went from non-drinker to binge drinker to daily drinker very quickly. Once I found alcohol it was my best friend; I wanted it around all the time.

there is a timetable, actually... it goes something like this;

somewhat-manageable---->>>occasionally-reasonable--->>>Surprisingly-Automatic---->>>>Shockingly-uncontrollable--->>>Totally-beyond-control-of-any-kind--->>>borderline-dead---->>>dead

Until that last step.... it's never too late.

The acceleration rate and total calendar time is different for everyone.

I definitely notice a progression with mine. I started out with just a few times a week to getting drunk every night. It's progressed further with my latest episodes. My latest, I drank for 3 days straight, grabbing and finishing booze I still had left from the day before and getting more in the morning. I can't even remember what I did about work. It's not a fun place to be.....don't wait for your own to get to that point.

It took me 4 years to go from having a great job, a car, a condo, and good physical health to being unemployed, bankrupt, no drivers license/car, no place to live and 40 pounds overweight. 4 years to lose everything. To be honest, I was deeply unhappy even before full blown alcoholism but it took hitting rock-bottom to make me realize it.

In the space of 4 years I went from only being able to handle 2 pints of beer to a half bottle of whisky, and that was on a night before work, being then able to without fail make it into work the next day!!

. . . after a few more years, who knows where that would have led!!
