We don't want to die yet :)

Many of you may know this speech of Steve Jobs... R.I. P.
Steve Jobs Stanford Commencement Speech 2005 - YouTube

I just thought to start a thread:
What are your major goals in life in sobriety? In no particular order, just thoughts and feelings :) You can have 3 wishes like me :) or just one, whatever comfortable.

I'll kick off.
1. Cravings under control
2. Work on my publication record
3. Set my f*** personal life in some sort of order (=girlfriend issues)

Next?

Oldselfagain 01-28-2014 08:44 AM

My first wish is have an unlimited number of wishes....and I feel by choosing sobriety I've effectively been given an unlimited number of wishes....as a result my future has never looked brighter.

alphaomega 01-28-2014 08:55 AM

1. Being able to get in the car and drive from California to New York.
2. Growing in my spiritual connection with myself and the Divine.
3. Spreading peace and love everywhere I go. Everywhere.
4. Staying sober and in the moment.

Great thread !!!!

EDIT : OOops that's 4. Can I have 4 ? :)

MrBen 01-28-2014 09:03 AM

My continued sobriety is my major goal.

Call me an underachiver. But if I don't stay sober, nothing else matters.

Aellyce 01-28-2014 10:09 AM

These all sound achievable goals, guys. Even the "unlimited" after getting rid of one of the biggest limiting factor :)

Doggonecarl - you are definitely not an underachiever, sobriety is quite a challenge, isn't it? I think you are just being realistic. I also have much more abstract, sophisticated, and bigger desires than what I listed above, but those are some immediate practical issues.

I think it's always helpful to set goals (short term and longer term) - it becomes easier to work towards them since they are defined. For me usually seeing problems and necessary steps to resolve them, knowing what I want next, and goal setting comes very easy... The implementation can be the real challenge because sometimes I lose my interest before getting really into it. But I guess in many cases the loss of interest is a sign that the goal was not so important after all.
Or that I'm being irresponsible...

Tiptree 01-28-2014 10:28 AM

1. Appreciate every day
2. Make sure the love I take is equal to the love I make
3. Spend more time having fun outdoors

sobercatholic 01-28-2014 10:47 AM

1)Make good use of my sobriety (which I do through my sobriety/spirituality blog Sober Catholic, but can improve.
2)Write and get paid.
3)Volunteer more

silentrun 01-28-2014 11:33 AM

Just peace. Underachiever maybe but that's all the really matters to me.

StevenT 01-28-2014 11:37 AM

Hmm... I feel like copying and pasting the remaining amends on my 9th step lol... I'd have to say my goal is to be further along then I was yesterday. To not regress. To live in my HP's will.

Yes, the above is impossible. That's what makes it the perfect goal. I'll never achieve it completely, so I'll always have something to shoot for.

Jus 01-28-2014 11:45 AM

Great thread!

1- continued inner spiritual peace
2- continued growth were needed in my sobriety

Oldselfagain – not feeling limited in possibilities is a great sense of freedom. The only thing I would mention: maybe try not to overdo it, including over-imagination...

Alphaomega – I think you are already doing one of these at least: “Spreading peace and love everywhere I go. Everywhere.” SR is not everywhere but quite broad...

MrBen – guess if you get into swimming seriously yourself, that might lead to some weight loss. And people are already reading you here...

Koko – if I had only one wish, Peace would be it. For myself and for the world...

Doggonecarl – sounds like you are achieving your highest goal with staying sober...

Tiptree – I sometimes feel the deepest form of connection and love when out in nature, I would think it’s definitely the way to go for those of us that love the outdoors...

Sobercatholic – you are already there: writing and volunteering to hopefully influence the life of others with your thoughts and experiences… I am sure there will also be a way to find some compensation for it. Probably need the right connections?...

Silentrun – same as for Koko, this would also be my one global wish. By expressing the opinion/desire, I think you’ve already contributed to it...

StevenT – I’m not in AA but do appreciate the 12-step work. Step 9 seems great and is something I also have a deep desire to do through my own programming of sobriety. Also, ideals may not be realistic but have a purpose to guide us...

Jus – just keep going with all that, everything will fall to place if you make the effort...

For me tonight it’s mainly just a peaceful night that I wish… well as peaceful as possible; so many things to do and stresses tomorrow, but that's living :)

Thank you, All!
