Glad to be here...
I am on my third day abstaining from alcohol. It's been a roller coaster so far but I am determined. Health problems have convinced me it's time. My husband is going to go 30 days without and that is helping me tonight. The weekend was fine, it was these weeknights I was worried about the most. Getting off work.
I do feel as though I'm suffering from some minor withdrawl but it seems to come and go so I don't know for sure. I'm definitely irritable so I can't wait for that to pass.
I look forward to reading everyone's helpful posts and encouragement. Hope to be able to provide the same.

Welcome to SR, madtrout. I joined almost a year ago but never did anything with it. I do plan to stick around and upon exploring, think that there's lots of good recovery here.
Sometimes you have to not just take it one day at a time, but sometimes an hour at a time, or five minutes, or even a minute at a time. You'll get through it in bite-sized bits.

Howdy, Madtrout...fellow Texan on Day 3 myself. I'm so glad you're here! I hope you find the encouragement, strength and hope that I have. Sounds like you've got some good support at home - that will help.
I've found quitting time to be a challenge as well. For me (on the suggestion of someone else here), I had to change my route home. Now there are only 2 million possible places to stop instead of the 5 million on my old route...or at least it feels that way some times. In all seriousness, I picked a route where the places I would pass were much more inconvenient (i.e. no "in & out" places on this new route). Just a suggestion that is working for me.
Again, welcome!!

Thanks Heartsafire! I did exactly that, changed my route and it helped. I always stopped at the grocery store on my way home from work and stocked up for the evening but yesterday When My hubby needed a script picked up I dreaded going in. I will admit, it was such a habit to head towards that beer/wine aisle but I didn't. It's funny to think that a few months ago when they rearranged the aisles I about panicked when I couldn't find my wine immediately. Funny sad actually.
