I am also addicted to diet soda

And I know it is gross but I am not ready to give it up. Isn't giving up drinking enough for right now?

You've given up alcohol but not diet soda? I don't see the harm in that. How much diet soda do you drink each day?

I'd say yes . . . worry about remaining Sober, and then all the other stuff you can figure out later.

I know I drink far too much coffee since quitting, but I can put that one on the back burner for a while, as it'll not kill me anytime soon, unlike alcohol would have done!!

I've read others having given up alcohol have taken up other things like chocolate etc and have managed to curb those eventually, so I wouldn't worry too much about it!!

I drink 3 diet sodas a day. I don't think it is as harmful to me, at least mentally, as alcohol but I know it isn't good for my body. People are always telling me how bad it is (even my old drinking buddies never got on me about alcohol, just soda). I am just not prepared to do 2 things at once.

I love my diet soda too. I didn't even try to stop drinking it when I first stopped drinking alcohol though. I was kind to myself and have slowly adopted healthier eating and drinking habits over time.

I'm right there with you but I never drank soda b4. When I went to treatment they didn't have coffee with caffeine in it and I freaked. They did have Mt. Dew though..I started right away on the diet Mt. Dew. Since I got out I am now up to about 4-6 cups of coffee, 2 diet cokes and 1 diet Mt Dew a day. My water intake has gone way down. I know it's not good but, like the others said, for now I have bigger battles to fight. I will work on knocking it back later and just not let it increase for now. I'm not going to worry about it. Gave that one to God too

I have no idea what I would do without my Diet Coke!

I am better these days--years ago I would have like 8 a day or more. Now it is one or 2.

But I'm not giving that up -- if I want one, I will have it.

Aspartame isn't such a great thing. Many people cannot handle it at all. If I do want a soda I get it from the health food store. It's called Sevia and comes in many flavors. My favorite is raspberry. You can get diet with stevia or without and regular.

Zevia All Natural Soda, Cola, 12 Ounce (Pack of 24) Frustration Free ...

Of course, just one a day of DCoke isn't too bad.

I drink too much coffee and try to substitute some of it with rooiboo tea.

Main thing................ no alcohol!

I have lots of bad habits. In time I may try to deal with more of them. For now I'm staying focused on the one that was on the verge of wrecking my family, my career, my freedom, my health, and my life.

I worry about addicts and diet soda. In my opinion, regular soda is better, for a host of reasons. Your body is craving sugar for a reason, you can wean off it later.

As they say, first things first.

I feel like I am trying to stop drinking myself to death and that is about all I can handle. I feel like I am not very able to do more than one thing at a time. Is that bad?

I like Dr. Pepper... but I don't think it's going to kill me anytime soon. I wouldn't worry about it right now regarding diet soda.

Maybe try caffeine free. It's good stuff and you won't loose sleep.

nope - sorry was not sure the point of the thread...I think your doing fine getting sober. Its best to phase things out over time. The less you have to think about in your first month the better.

I never liked the taste of diet soda - sure drank a lot of ordinary soda for a while tho...I eventually fell back to normal levels of consumption.

I understand peoples concerns but I felt I was fighting for my life trying to stay sober and I was right in a very real sense - drinking soda didn't really bother me.

I drink a couple of cans of diet sodas every day. I am aware it's not a good idea but in the short to medium term, if it helps me stay away from alcohol, which was KILLING me, I am fine with it.

I drink caffeine free coke a few times a week. I quit drinking in the summer and drank loads of crystal light and diet tonic water with lime. I think things evened out over time…so I wouldn't worry about it…you're doing fine
