slipped up
slipped up
Hello...
I have slipped up and feel sooo p*ssed off with myself.
I had been sober for 24 days...The longest period yet for me until last night.
The thing is I just knew I was going to have a drink...The cravings suddenly appeared again after having subsided for a while.
I don't understand why the cravings came back with a vengeance? Is that normal?
I just feel like I'm weak and have no willpower.
Now I have to start over

They do appear in the early days and it's like being hit over the head. The trick is to get around that. YOu had 24 days which is great and nothing can take that away. Just start again and beat those craving back over the head. Tell yourself you will feel horrid in the monring, tell yourself you can't just have a couple. It took a while the the penny to drop with me. Don't beat yourself up, just start over. The longer you go, the easier it gets. Hope you feel better soon xxxx
I've had that feeling of knowing you're going to have a drink. Even after a period of abstinance, I would plan my next drink. I have no idea why. Except maybe that I'm an alcoholic and that's what alcohols do.
I made many such attempts at sobriety. Years worth. So don't be to hard on yourself.
I tried and failed to stay sober many, many times. So you're not alone.
I don't even know if willpower plays a part in it. I guess it does, but when I was drinking I had none.
Just learn from your experience and pick yourself back up and try again. The only failure is to stop trying.
Wishing you the best.

Fairy - You did great getting to 24 days and as Kate says look at today and remember how you feel. You've done this and can do it again. Everyone gets those temptations but they get easier to fight off as you put more time under your belt. Stay strong and don't be pissed at yourself! read Kate's tag line...it is something I have adopted because you cant change yesterday but you do control today.
Welcome back Pinktinkfairy
I think many of us, me included can underestimate the task...we drink for years then expect to be done with it all in weeks....
It wont take years to recover - the cravings do lessen and disappear....but it will take more than a month, or even 2 months for most of us.
It's really important to have a plan made ahead of time for when the cravings strike, I think.
There are some good ideas here:

The good thing is you'll be more prepared in future

Hi. This is one of the reasons alcoholism is referred to as Cunning, baffling and powerful. In the beginning it helped me to NOT think about drinking by thinking of anything else that gave my good feelings. It works if we work it.
BE WELL
BE WELL
Just wanted to say for all your support.
I will see this as just a blip and will once again begin the journey to become sober and more importantly. ..stay sober!
Good luck to all
