Just feel like sleeping, is this normal? I am on day 3. I don't want to drink today. I find myself just wanting to sleep. Is it normal to be very tired? I also feel like I am purposely avoiding thinking about alcohol by sleeping. |
I felt the opposite, but everyone is different. I had insomnia and couldn't sleep no matter what time it was. |
I was exhausted one day insomnia the next. Really shows how your system is screwed up! |
I would have insomnia and not sleep for the first 48 hours of withdrawal so by day 3 I was exhausted and desperate for sleep. That third night was always the 'hump' to get over as I would likely sleep for 12 hours or more straight and wake up feeling much better. |
I was wiped for the first 2 weeks, almost felt like jetlag, I wasn't sleeping at night and then that rolled into the next day, when I had to go to work, then in the evenings when I felt like crashing into bed, I then couldn't sleep again!! But in time it eased and my sleeping pattern balanced itself out!! Then I slept ALL the time, 10/12hrs at the weekends, must be our body/mind just needs to catch up on some much needed rest!! :) |
Drugs and alcohol take a huge toll on our insides. It affects all our organs, mentally, physically, emotionally, spiritually. We push our bodies to the limit, over working them, destroying, damaging, stressing them. A trip to your doctor for a full exam to see what may need to be repaired due to a chemical imbalance in your system. There maybe a vitamin deficiency. I learned to be completely honest with my doctor letting him know that im in recovery and if medicine is prescribed that it not be habit forming or narcotic because my recovery is very important to me and I don't want to relapse. I followed H.A L T. - hungry, angry, lonely and tired taking care of each or addressing each to help me stay on track with my recovery. Any of those warning signs flared up, I took care of them. It took yrs of putting my body thru abuse with alcohol and had to learn to make it healthier with a program of recovery to guide me along the way. |
I have a mood disorder. when I am depressed I can sleep for days. Really. Its bad. Not sure what is going on with you but I stopped four days ago and I can't exactly say I am a happy camper right now. I gave up one of my best friends really and Im thinking about or craving it most of my days now. Plus getting my life back together after all the problems Ive made for myself isn't going to be a picnic. I try not to beat myself up when I find myself getting down. I try not to project or think too much and just keep doing what I need to. Not pick up that first hit or drink. Things do get better I hear. I've seen it. I've seen people get clean and their lives got better than they or anyone ever imagined. They seem like Miracles to me. Hang in and keep on keeping on. |
Yep totally normal I think in early recovery. |

After MANY attempts to quit drinking I went to a doctor recently. Mind you, every time I tried to go cold turkey I had HORRIBLE insomnia. Could not sleep for days (once did not sleep for 4 days). He gave me Librium. Librium (Chlordiazepoxide) Drug Information: Description, User Reviews, Drug Side Effects, Interactions - Prescribing Information at RxList Slept for close to 9 hours. Makes you drowsy for sure. Feel like you can't concentrate, but it did help. |
I do have a history of depression (clinical) and know that I will sleep to pass time and to avoid feelings. Maybe it is all related. I am glad you all responded. I don't feel like such a freak and alone after reading what you wrote. Thank you. |
Yah ur body needs to recuperate. If it continues for weeks or months you may want to check with a doctor. |
Alcohol abuse can cause some pretty hellish internal organ damage. Be happy you can sleep :) |
Yep, the few times I have attempted to quit my sleep schedule changed for a handful of weeks. I'd sleep almost as soon as I got home from work and wake at like 3AM waking up frequently covered in sweat and needing to get a drink but overall sleeping decently. |
Oh my goodness I spent weeks simply exhausted. As promised it got better but wow was it rough while going through it. |
Considering we confused our CNS I think its normal to sleep a lot or not sleep at all. I slept really well the first week then had difficulty sleeping. Almost like my mind was racing. Im back to normal now. |
I'm on day 2. Last night had a really restless sleep and took today off work. Was sooo tired this morning but STILL couldn't sleep..now? I can't wait to go to bed! I remember last time I quit all I wanted to do was sleep all the time. I think the up and down will prob last for a but. Well for me anyways. |
I would do an 8 hour shift, come home with barely enough energy to eat and then I would go to bed. Some nights I would sleep for 12 hours and I would still feel sleepy during the day. In all honesty this lasted for 2 months but I really think my body needed it after years of passing out drunk. Your body is telling you it needs rest. Hopefully you will feel better soon. |

Took me couple wks to sleep normaly again; but all depends how much you drank & for how long |
