Hello
Hello
Hello. I’m on day 3 of not drinking. Went to one AA meeting thus far, but decided to check into this place as well. I’m really still working on 1st step, as well as trying to examine 2nd step from my non-dualist (basically Buddhist/Taoist) perspective.
I tried this a year ago, but the only group close by was one in which certain members felt free to evangelize openly for their particular religion, without any moderation by anyone in the group—in cross-talk aimed directly at anyone who made the mistake of sharing from another perspective—and I became angry and left; and went back to drinking. I’ve moved, and I trust that was a problem with that particular group; thus far, it seems so. I want to stress that I have no problem with anyone sharing from their particular perspective, and their particular Higher Power; and I am open to other spiritual understandings—I just don’t need to be evangelized. And it seems that this is a safe place in that regard.
Drinking hasn’t crashed my life. But I have become a progressively heavier drinker, have had a few embarrassing moments because of it, and really don’t seem to be able to take just one drink. I saw a quote on here that seemed to fit; it went something like this: “You take the first drink; that drink takes the next drink; and the rest of the drinks take you.” I also look forward all day to that first drink, and take it earlier and earlier in the day.
Anyway, that’s where it’s at. Thanks.

Welcome, Kensho Just remember that it's far, far harder to refuse the second drink than to refuse the first and life is much more peaceful and fulfilling without the daily battle of alcohol.
