So Far during Day One Detox
So, this is approved by a doctor first and foremost. That's important.
I started taking Ativan (Lorazepam) instead of Librium for this alcohol detox. I feel very "off". Sure, my bp feels fine, I'm not shaking, I'm sweating a little though.
But my brain feels like it has to work harder to do something. It's a side effect of taking this dosage. It just isn't very fun having to take medicines to be safe from alcohol detox.
This pill also makes me feel out of energy (it's a muscle relaxer too).
Thankfully, I'll only be taking it for three days. The only problem with this is that I start my new job tomorrow. I will have to look like a drone I guess. I'm doing HR paperwork all day anyway... Should be fine.
This is my LAST alcohol detox. I'm checking into Rational Recovery. Not sure about it yet, but I think I'm going to follow this site for sure and AA at least for a while. I made a plan yesterday, and I'm sticking to that plan.
I do not have to go through this anymore. I feel crappy at best right now.

Im on day 22 and I know exactly how you feel. After over 25 years of drinking and drugging on a daily basis I had some terrible withdrawals. My doctor prescribed trazodone to help me sleep through the night without waking up feeling like I was going to freak out! I took it for three nights as well. I was having crazy dreams and felt very lethargic all day but it gets better. It sounds like you have a good attitude and are determined to live a life without alcohol! The first week was rough but it definitely gets better. I have still been sleeping allot and have some days where I feel great and others where Im really irritable. I have been going to at least one meeting a day and have already made some sober friends and found a sponsor. Im sure your aftercare will include meetings, they are actually fun and I have never left one feeling worse that when I walked in! You are doing great! You can do this, it gets better every day!
No, you never have to go through this again if you so choose. Just think of how you feel now next time you get a craving for a drink.
Sounds like you've got a good plan in place. I sure hope it works for you.
Hang in there, it'll get better.

Thanks guys! If I make it 11 more hours, all of my neurological issues are gone. (at least they were last detox).
Then tomorrow I'll feel hot all day. I can go from taking 3 of these really bad pills, to taking two of them. Then Tuesday I'll feel a litter warmer than usual but not HOT. And I will only take one of these bad pills.
On my day four, (Wednesday) I'll be on a major high with all withdrawal symptoms gone. That's when the harder part for me begins. Long Term Sobriety.

One thing that really helped was watching allot of movies. Between DVD's I have and on demand cable movies that was a great way to veg and keep my mind from wandering to bad places! Also lots of water and tea to flush out all those toxins can't hurt! You can do this!
