voices in my head

I don't know why I keep hearing voices in my head telling me that I could go and use one more time... It's like I have a worm inside my brain!! God I hate addiction, after 23 years I'm really tired with the fight, the relapses, but there's always something within me that needs to be free!!
And deep inside I know that there's no such thing called 'one more time' been there! I know that this one time will lead to several more times! But it keeps coming to my mind...
God I hate addiction! !!

Rational Recovery refers to it as the beast, or addictive voice...the lizard brain.

You might want to google AVRT or look at our Secular Connections Forum.

Yeah addiction makes our body/mind want what we've been giving it for years, as now we are starving it and it doesn't know how to adjust to not having it.

But in time, the body/mind will adjust and the cravings will dampen!!

With more sober time, and recognizing the voice for what it is - just a voice - you won't hear it as often or as loudly. It does go away. Stay sober. It's worth it.

Remember its one day at a time and that day can be broken down into increments. I just hit 9 mos with similar relapse history. Make a decision throughout the day. Your brain is going through boot camp.

I second the AVRT suggestion. For some reason with addictions we seem to blindly accept whatever pops into our head. Our thoughts do not have to be acted on x
