New here and new at internet forums
I'm very glad to have found this sobriety support resource. I don't have experience using internet forums so don't know what's possible. If anyone has suggestions on how to get familiar with using these forums, please let me know. Good to be here!
Hey Brattenj57, welcome to Sober Recovery! I'm sure you'll find it really useful here.
You might want to check this link out for some general FAQ's for the forum

It's a bit tricky at first but if I can get the hang of it anyone can!
Take care

My advice, especially in early recovery: Don't take anything anyone says in a post personally. In other words, don't be too sensitive. Don't take offense.
I wanted to be sober. Here's what I did on SR. I found the members who had long term sobriety and decided I would listen to their advice. What worked for them might work for me. Where opinions differed between members, I assumed both were valid and picked what worked for me.
My thinking only kept me drinking. I was willing to listen to someone else for a change.
Most of all, I saw that sobriety was attainable, and it gave me hope and strengh on my recovery journey.

I defo agree with doggone carl here. You may read different views because we all travel a different road to get to the same end. One persons view is no better or worse than somebody else, just different. But if you want sobriety and the wonderful life that comes with it then you are in the right place. Keep reading and posting and welcome.
Me too! I'm on a learning curve as well. I'm still not quite sure what a "blog" really is but I do like the ability to connect with others in recovery, hear their stories and read words of support and experience.
Thanks. It's just going to take practice I guess. I expect great benefits. I live in a small town, not many options for social/recovery-support alternatives that have never really worked for me when it comes to my addiction to alcohol. So if I need to go to the internet for social support and camaraderie, well, I'm very grateful that this is an option, and I will eventually get this technology figured out.
SR has some very nice features, BrattenJ_57 (Do we have the same last name?). Most useful is a chat room you can access by clicking the 'chat room' link that is at the top right of the page header. There are twice weekly loosely-structured meetings which are gently and ably moderated. There is almost always someone there with an open ear, 24/7.
Secondly, you may also send private messages, or PMs, to members simply by clicking on their username. There may be a minimum post count first though.
I hope you settle in, and read read read, and participate in the forums. Some great stuff and very kind and generous members here. The moderators are pretty darn good too.
