Can't be cool and sober!

I held that belief for 45 years. I would always point at people like Eric Clapton, Rod Stewart and Steven Tyler. I referred to EC as "Clapton Lite." How the hell do you go from the voice of the Faces whose box set is titled "Five Guys Walk into a Bar" to having a string of wimpy records and a Victorian mansion with no booze?

Okay I WAS WRONG!!!! Upon listening to them in the last few years as I was heading to full sobriety I began to get it. I have a lot and I mean more that 40 friends that are musicians on my FB that are recently sober or 16 years plus, all doing kick ass stuff with NO BOOZE.

As this is my first post I am here to learn from the vets and help those still working on sobriety. Do not hesitate to ask me about my drinking (beer) 6-12 a day for 30 years(?) or my substance abuse daze. Yteirbos

Myself personally, I can't be cool when I drink, because if I drink, then I'm a drunk. And nobody likes a drunk.

Great you found us, and are making changes in your life.

I feared a life of boredom and despair when I stopped drinking.

The truth is very different.

Well I'm no Clapton just an ex- bar musician but there was nothing cool about me missing gigs, missing a set cos I'd passed out in the toilets, or not being capable of playing at all, being sick all over the bar or falling off stage

I much prefer the sober me and my sober life .

Joe Walsh still sounds pretty cool to me

welcome aboard ytierbos

How true... that is the reason it took so damn long. But man was I wrong. I can do the same at 1:00 PM as I would at 1:00AM!! BONUS!

How did I miss Joe? Loved his James Gang days and even Barnstorm. He never really changed that much, except for his playing...it got much better. I will post some photos I took of him last in 2012...awesome guy.

Gotta love the Jagger swagger....'Walk like Jaggger'
Hard core health nut and serious physical fitness work - outs...
Apparently he has the odd drink, a real rarity these days but the boozy cocaine filled days a vague memory of over 20 years ago.....Now Kieth!!!!

I hate to admit to people, but I was so into booze drenched rock like the Faces, ..that I refused to stop or admit there were sober rockers much better.

I have to say that after his historic days with Cream, Blind Faith and Derek & the Dominoes he did loose that moniker as he was learning how to remain clean/sober. He went through so much heart break that he actually unplugged for @ least a decade. Once his Crossroads fest's took off and his appearance with George Harrison/Tribute IMHO he reclaimed his status 10 fold and SOBER!
