Stay sober here this year! Holiday thread! 2013 - 2014

Who am I trying to kid.... I thought, naively, that I could start the New Years thread on New Year's Eve.

My av doesn't see a break just because today is a workday.

My av doesn't see a break because the calendar says it's not a Friday or weekend or the actual holiday.

My av is not an hour glass that after every time a tough spot comes along to turn itself over and wait to attack my thoughts and heart at the next scheduled time.

My av works every moment of every day.

So let's start talking sobriety for this New Years! Let's start the support NOW. This moment.

This is the time I really dread. The lets start anew!

This alcoholic has started new damn near everyday for years. Hoping that this year...month...week...day will be different.

Today it is. Yesterday it wasn't.

Dose that mean everyday is day 1?

Yeah. Today is all we have. So today is day 1.

You and I. Let's not celebrate the first day of the year.

Let's celebrate the first sober day.

Is it your 5th? 50th? 500th?

It's all still day one.

I need to remind myself everyday... Wake up and say today I will be sober.

--------

Say what you feel about the new year... Your day 1?

This is my first sober New Years. Last year i was sneaking around finishing off everybody else's champagne and gulping the remnants of the bottles.

This year we will be toasting with eggnog from the dairy case. No champagne. I will be making stroganoff tomorrow for dinner, but my son bought the wine and my husband will be measuring it into the measuring cup for me to make the sauce (and dumping the rest down the drain).

I have no problem with wine flavor in food--to me it tastes totally different and non-threatening in food. I have no desire whatever to drink it.

Glimer.... Sounds like your family is there for you. That's really great!

Purple! Agree! Kick this into gear!

I am not usually so excited but I need to be in order to stay the course.

Weasel/ey:

Thank you for this post / thread. I so wish I were sober, but I'm not. It's a very very hard time for us. The hardliners say: 'just don't pick up the first drink, no matter what'. Quite right too. But many of us just do. I'm one.

I just wanted to applaud you for starting this thread, that's all luv.

PS I don't mean 'hardliners' in a bad way. Probably just projecting my own frustrations. All power to those who do and can stay sober.

Keep warm there Weasey!

Django... Nothing in this world changed because someone stayed quietly on the side lines. No one ever rooted for the underdog because the underdog hide from them.

I am an underdog.

Speak up every chance you get. I wanna hear!

Bemyself... I have been following you. This is a place for those that WANT to be sober and for those that are. You certainly qualify. Glad you are here.

Yeah--I fell in November. I come here every day to keep me bolstered.

Sometimes when I'm an a really depressed mood I come here and it really lifts me.

Even though I'm not the queen of long-term sobriety, sometimes something i say to somebody else really encourages them.

It's worth coming, even if you don't feel very worthwhile.

So glad to see everyone. I was hoping we'd have a thread a little early! Thank you Ken. django, I'm happy to see you too and it's great that you're back and not out there on your own. I have a lot of gratitude seeing all you checking in and getting to be a part of everyone's sobriety!

Gratitude! Good one!
This year I am so grateful for my pets who love me unconditionally, my little house, my family, and for Sober Recovery, where I have found a place to be my recovering alcoholic self.

Hey everyone ,
Thanks for starting the thread Ken .

It's 10 am in Sidney on new years eve so i recon the AV will be in full shout for all our friends there .

I was in a grumpy mood yesterday i think i was overtired , HALT , i didn't drink but for me my thinking was far from it's usual place , No harm done to my relationships .. just some TLC required and thankfully received …

Call it divine providence , call it the HP at work but sometimes the right thing happens at the right time to humble this guys alcoholic ego, to badly paraphrase "there are more things in heaven and on earth than are in your or i's philosophy Horatio ."

Tonight tomorrow is just another day in a long line of days , if we look at our pets or animals they do not know which day it is, they do not know it's new years eve . I don't know it's new years eve , i only "have it on good authority" If i flew from Hawaii to new zealand i might be able to skip the day completely but it would still be the same day for me ??? … Huurah for the 32nd of december jumping through to the 2nd of january .

Bestwishes, m

I'm in! Tomorrow will be New Years Eve here in NY and I will have 58 days sober. I'm not gonna let 1 night ruin all that I have worked for! Looking forward to a sober ball-drop this year!
