Thiamine

Hi guys,

I hope everyone is well and recovering!

I was wondering what other peoples experiences of being prescribed thiamine are? I am on 100mg daily (pill form) - does this sound about right?

I am seeing my specialist doctor on Friday and everyone's case is individual but thought it would be interesting to know of other peoples experiences.

Thanks

A very common B vitamin prescribed for folks in recovery. I was on it for a few months. I actually found it made me anxious, as many in benzo recovery have found.

What are your concerns?

Bi vitamin deficiencies are common in alcoholism.

Thanks MemphisBlues - I was just wondering whether 100mg sounded about right and for how long i can expect to be on it. No real concern apart from the taste!

I think everyone's different - and everyones clinical needs can be different too.
Unless you have good reason to doubt, I'd go along with your Dr on this one

It's often prescribed with valium or Librium for an outpatient detox programme. I got 12 x5mg and 5 x2mg valium tablets and 24x100mg of vitamin b compound during my detox from alcohol . Turns out I didn't need all that but apparently the thiamin helps the brain return to normal psychological functioning much quicker and in more severe case may be given intravenously to help prevent wet brain developing.

Its only a vitamin, people who drink excessively tend to be short of it and it can have some serious neurological side effects, its petty much standard procedure. i try n supplement b12 myself whenever possible to offset any issue's that may occur in the future
