Wishing everyone a happy, healthy, sober Christmas. Proud or myself for buying beer and wine to entertain and not getting vodka for myself (although the little AV in the back of my brain says "maybe you can suck down any leftovers.") Bringing my cranberry diet ginger ale to a small get together tonight. I know my brother in law will remind me about the mini bar her has stashed away in the trunk of his car (gosh we enjoyed that for so many years) but I'll politely decline. Memories of arguing with my wife or trying to put together a bike or a Barbie Dream House while drunk keep me strong. "what do mean Barbie's dream house does not have handle bars?"

All you people getting massages are asking me jealous. Sounds awesome.

Soberclover when I read "lobster newburg" I had to check where you were posting from because i figured New England. My first husband's mother would make it, along with meat pie every year. French Canadian in far northern New Hampshire. Brings back memories.

For some reason we always have polish sausage and sauerkraut.

What are people's traditional Christmas foods?

I am signing up for a clean weekend. Not easy its been many many years. Fortunately with my DOC I'm far enough along I don't have to worry about having a dopesick Christmas. That's just not good times. So I'm very grateful this Christmas to wake up clean and not sick! Amongst many other things of course...

Welcome! Welcome! Welcome! To the new folks. Glad to have you around for this sober holiday!

Opentoreceive ... This thread is for today and tomorrow but we will have another for the weekend. The threads can get rather large so it's best to split them.

Please join us for both!

We are having roast beast (prime rib) with the little English puffy cooked in fat rolls....the name escapes me just now.
And I have attempted to create one of those yule log cakes. Baked everything last night and will assemble today.....complete with meringue mushrooms.

Yup.... I am in New York for the holiday. Went through the toll both on the throngs neck bridge.... Paid the toll and got change back.

I said "thank you!"

The toll taker said "you should!"

Ahhhh....

Two of my weakest days. I've not had a Christmas without alcohol in over 20 years. I'm in.

Merry Christmas everyone!! Weasel thank you for this thread.

You are all at the top of my gratitude list, thank you so much. I am beyond grateful to have been touched by the honesty, understanding, support, friendship and kindness I have experienced here. What I have learned here I carry with me and I often wonder when I meet a stranger if it could be one of you. SR has taught me that there are many people in the world who are struggling and putting on a brave face. I think that is such an important lesson and such a gift.

I've only been sober a week and right now it's day to day. I want to see what it feels like after a year. Hopefully by that time, I won't think about drinking any more than I'll think about smoking crack or eating chicken dumplings.

To get to a year, I'm gonna have to get through this Christmas so here I am...

Hello Everyone!

I am in for a sober Christmas and Christmas Eve here! Going to be at church later this evening then a nice visit with lots of appetizers (calamari rings, wings, brie cheese, sausage rolls, spring rolls etc) and drinks, mine will be non-alcoholic.

I am feeling pretty tired right now but hopefully I can rally in order to get everything that needs to be done accomplished. Glad to see everyone here!

I'm in--shaking, rattling, clanging every available bell--ring, ring!

Feeling so much gratitude to be here, among so many amazing people. While our battles with alcohol may have brought us together, we have something else in common--we are a tough, strong, generous group, and we have each other's back. What a comfort it is, knowing that.
