Jo Nesbo

A friend turned me on to this Swedish crime novelist, Jo Nesbo. I read his first book, The Bat, and it was pretty bad but she just gave me a novel that he wrote five years later, Nemesis, and the writing is much improved. The reason I mention it is that the protagonist is an alcoholic, and the way he navigates this in the workplace provides an interesting perspective. Some may not relate, but as a prosecutor, it resonated with me...

I find books in a foreign language are ofter only as good as their English translator - maybe the translator on the later book was better?

I love Jo Nesbo and have read all of his books, you are right, they are a bit uneven but definitely a good read. And yes, I also found Harry Hole's struggles with alcoholism interesting, it's a very open struggle
