Good news to share
Just returned from Dr. appt. after getting liver blood work done on Monday.
38 days without a drop of alcohol. Liver numbers are back to normal on all tests.
Had it checked on November 7 and those results raised a red flag with the Dr.
Very happy that no major damage to contend with. I spilled my guts to the Dr. last time I was in to see him. Told him about how I drink, how much, when. Not why! 45 years of binge drinking has wore me out. Moderation does not work for me. I know that and will live without it. I feel healthier, eating better, sleeping much better, moods are stable (always a cranky 60 year old guy now, not just sometimes). November 11 was my last drink. 11/12/13. I will always remember as it was my daughters 30 birthday party. All the family and in-laws were there. Everyone had one glass of wine while I sucked back 7 beer. Didn't really notice until I took the empties to the garage bin. It was an afternoon event for crying out loud.
Anyway, thats in the past. Can't change the past just the future and I feel confidence building. I won't drink today, that's for sure.
To all the brand newbies, I wish you well. You have heard it already from these great people, but I will say it again, Everyday is better than the one previous. You are getting healthier with every passing hour that you abstain from drinking.
You need a plan, strength and support to help you with this battle. Reach out and ask for help everyday. Best that life has to offer to all of us!

thank you Dee. I really do appreciate (and count on) the words of support from my new friends on SR. I have tried to explain my situation and decision to a few of my close friends. All were surprised, some made a joke of it, others said not much. They all could not believe that good times Rick had a problem. High functioning drunks don't wear their problems on their sleeves. As I didn't. It was a friendship between me and the booze that was exclusive to us. Not many friends really knew and they just don't understand. That's okay. It's my journey and mine alone. My family is really all that counts in life and they are so supportive and proud of my progress so far. I can't let them down. I won't let them down.
Thanks Dee.
Thanks Dee.
You're darn right. A plan and support are key to winning this fight. Glad you shared your story there Rich, and really happy to hear that you're enjoying sobriety. Stay vigilant - sounds like you're off to a terrific start. Congrats and be well.
