Rational Recovery
Welcome.
No matter what you chose to stop drinking.
The goal is the same.
I think the "everybody is wired differently" explains why there's different approaches. It's what is working for that particular person that suggest it.

Sunshine, you seem to get the idea just fine that you are addicted to alcohol, and that you are good with the idea that never drinking again is the way to put an end to this addiction called alcoholism. Goodonya. So many prolong their misery with the inability or refusal to take this step, and they persist in the belief that the day will come when they can drink again and obtain that dopamine rush of pleasure without experiencing a recurrence of their problems that brought them here in the first place.
Here is one person's experience with AVRT. You may find it helpful.

I am happy for you in that your life is good, and that you will be able to tackle this plan with a supportive environment. This is a great predictor of your success.

Hi Sunshine.
There are many ways to recover from alcoholism. NONE of them work for everyone. And following one path doesn't make one more recovered than someone following a different path.
Personally I've use many paths to recovery: Rational Recovery, SMART, Lifering, Alan Carr's Easy Way, mindfulness.
Now I just don't drink. Ever. Regardless how I feel about that.
