Hi

I bought some vodka today.......but I didn't drink it but just looked at it. The silly thing is I don't know why.

Had a smell of it but put the cap back on.

Maybe my old ways or muscle memory.

Could be muscle memory, or perhaps you want it sitting there like a security blanket. We do odd things sometimes. Can't you chuck it or give it away?

But, if you're anything like me, YOU WILL drink it at some point.

Throw it out, take it back, get rid of it.

Soon.

Yes, do get rid of it.

It's so much easier if you don't have alcohol in the house.

I would ignore my common sense and just blank out all thought then go to the store and buy beer. Kind of an autopilot kinda thing. Pour it out.

Pour it down. Today could be the beginning of a good new life: it's really up to you.
Why don't you get rid of that poison and join us at the 24 hours club where we commit not to drink or drug for the next 24 hours? Before you know it, those days do pile up, the obsession lift and life gets better or if it doesn't get better, at least we get better at life.
Come on Josafe, WE can do it http://www.soberrecovery.com/forums/...ml#post4340911

And forgot, wash my bed every 2 days. For the first week. I think my night sweat smells like booze!

Hey

Thank you all so much. I have managed to not to drink it which is a great start. It must be old habits and routines of picking up some alcohol whilst shopping. I must try and avoid that part of the supermarket.

I will pluck up the courage and just pour it down the drain or in the toilet. If I am unable to do this then I have a major problems. I have passed the first test. I didn't drink it and have put the bottle out of sight. Also, the bottle is 35cl and not 70cl. Small steps I guess.

Isnt it silly how alcohol can make you feel powerless. Silly really or may be its the shame, guilt and out of control feelings that it brings back. Maybe the inability that a small glass wont be enough and that I must drink the whole bottle.

I may try the 24 hours club. I think I need the 24 hour club to empower me.

The more you deliberate over it the harder it gets Josafe.
My advice:

Go get it now and dump it, without thinking.

Please...

I will pour it down the toilet on Saturday at the latest. If I start to feel weak I will ask for help. Please have faith in me that I will do it.

I need to face my demon and that it cannot have a hold of me any more.

Then face it and pour it out. Why are you waiting until Saturday?

Stop lying to yourself Josafe. You want to drink it at some point or why are you keeping it?

I am trying to be your friend here. Quit listening to the demon in your head. He is lying to you.

To me Saturday is a long time away, that's a long craving to ride if that bottle is in the house! . . . putting your Sobriety at risk by keeping it around is a very high risk strategy!!

Gibbons is right. I will follow this thread and your progress; hope you have the courage to dump it out now. This is scary stuff; vodka is not to be messed with. Hope you are okay. You can do it; your "beast" is lying to you.
