Sober Anxiety Busters
Knitting. It takes just enough concentration to keep you in it, but eventually you get into a meditative rhythm with it.
I have made so many scarves, hats and blankets - my local food pantry will be well stocked winter warmies. And I give the blankets to the animal shelter.

i find it very therapeutic- highly recommend it. all of my buddies are getting sobriety scarves for christmas. if i had gotten sober earlier, they would have had hoodie sweaters.

Yup I agree with exercise - specifically walking for me.
If i'm going to meet people at a bar, because it's just what they all do, i park about 20 minutes away and walk. I feel great upon entry and then i have the walk back to the car that can help relieve anxiety that may have developed throughout the night.

In the last nine months I've developed an enormous appreciation of Gregorian chants, if anyone had told me that this would be so ten months ago I would have laughed. The power of the human voice as a musical instrument is amazing and immensely soothing.
walking my dogs, snuggling with my dogs, zoning out surfing the internet, listening to a great podcast or audiobook, doing something creative: cooking, gardening, crafts, going for a walk in nature, planning my next vacation

Exercise, knitting, and cooking all work for me--but the problem is when the anxiety creeps up when these options aren't available. I had a terrible anxiety attack this past Saturday when I couldn't really do any of these things. It spiraled out of control, really, until that evening when my brain finally "shut down." I keep thinking about it and wondering what I could have done to stave it off and am perplexed.
I learned some breathing techniques and some yoga stretches at daytox that I find quite helpful as well.
And I will sometimes take my frustration out on a PS3 game!
Or sometimes snuggling with my grandkids or dogs helps. Just anything that feels calming and makes me feel centered.
