Ativan or Xanax or Valium or Klonopin are all classified as "minor" tranquilizers to distinguish them from the first tranquilizers developed in the 1950s, such as Thorazine, which many associate as a lobotomy in a pill since it totally shuts down the brain.
There is no baby tranquilizer akin to a baby aspirin. Ativan is a benzodiazepine all all are classified as highly addictive.
I think the term minor tranquilizer is dangerous to addicts like me.

The purpose of benzos is to help through withdrawals. After 26 days, you should be well past the initial withdrawal phase, so it sounds you're doc made the right call. Best of luck to you moving forward.
Benzo withdrawal is hell. Just as bad and deadly as alcohol. Getting a prescription for these drugs should never be taken lightly, as they are highly addictive. And I am saying this as someone who takes klonopin for severe, clinical anxiety.
