When do the headaches stop??
When do the headaches stop??
Every single day since my sobriety date, I have had headaches. I thought they would have gone away by now but they seem to be getting worse. They aren't horribly painful but they are nagging and lingering and making me feel crappy. I think this may be the only physically symptom I have left, besides eating like a horse. I've been taking Advil every single day and now I'm worried I'm getting addicted to that!?
Yes, make sure you're getting enough fluids. See about adding some vitamin and mineral supplements to your diet. Ask your doctor to check your blood work and see what's if anything is lacking.
hope you feel better soon!

Hi Suekie,
I hope you feel better soon.
I had a perpetual headache for a few months after I stopped drinking. Constant and annoying, not quite debilitating, but I almost gave in a couple of times. The only thing I did....besides checking with my doctor, was stay sober.
It eventually went away.
Hang in there!

Thank you all!
ReadyAtLast.. pain killers (and benzos) were actually part of my addiction, that might be why, too.
I will give it another week or so, if they continue to persist I will make a Dr. appointment.

You mean some peoples heads don't ache all the time? I didn't have this one enough to recall it, not persistent, had more when I WAS drinking. Looks like good advice given here, give it a bit more sober time then head for the Doc.
I'm on day 8 since quitting. I was fine for the first 6, but for the last two days I've had a really bad headache from waking up. I've been taking paracetamol but they aren't really working, so if it's the same the next few days then it's off to Doctors I think!
Benzo withdrawal can be very protracted. I still get headaches. Your body is still waiting for the benzo delivery guy to show up and it is going to take a while for it to figure out that that isn't happening. Slowly your body will begin to rewire, but it can take a while.
I still lose words, it drives me crazy, I guess I won't be blowing Alec Trebec's socks off on Jeopardy anytime soon…….

If you're not already taking a good magnesium supplement, you might try adding one as that can help with reducing headaches. Although if you're suffering PAWS, that may not help. Still wouldn't hurt to try and head massages (especially if you can use some peppermint oil) should help too.

went to our chiropractor two weeks ago with a lingering headache
one adjustment and my headache was
80 % removed
next adjustment prox one week later

It seemed like everything ached for a time when I first got sober. And then it stopped.
I started going for regular checkups, blood work, and the rest of it since I've been sober. I think it's a mistake not to see your doctor after first getting sober, and then to go regularly afterwards.

Update...I went and got Centrum Specialist (Energy) multi-vitamins a few hours ago, and for the first time in about five days, the headache has subsided.
This has hopefully worked for me.
The past month I have been a bit abusive with caffeine, cigarettes, and junk food, in order to get clean. Headaches were inevitable.
Now I will try to work on nutrition.
Just thought I would share that in my case I knew that a multi-vitamin couldn't hurt.
