need to quit
need to quit
After years of putting it off, I really want to quit drinking. I started like most other people started in high school drinking a few beers a day, but now 6 years later I now drink between a 12 pack to a 24 pack of beers a day. Alcohol is one of the few things that keeps me from feeling depressed.
After losing a significant other a year ago, gaining 50 lbs in the past year, ending every night by puking my guts up and waking up every single morning for the past year or so with horrid migraines I think its time for a change but I don't know how to quit.

Welcome to the Forum Zach! the first step is to make the decision to quit and then it's a day by day battle to remain sober, the key though will be to have support, not sure anyone could do it on their own, whether that's going to meetings, supportive friends or checking out this place every day.
Hi Zach - welcome! Sounds like you have a pretty high tolerance. Please be careful. Withdrawl from that kind of drinking can be dangerous. Keep posting and let us know how you're doing. We are here for you!
Welcome, Zach. All you need to think about it today. If a day is too much then think about the next hour. If an hour is overwhelming then switch to minutes. Whatever works...
Keep coming back here for support. We all understand without judgement. We're all the same - professional drunks who are committed to sobriety TODAY.
So glad you found us...we've been waiting for you.

Welcome to SR zach.
I'm a former beer drinker - 10+ per day or more.
My drinking "career" spans more than 40 years.
I drank to relieve Social Anxiety, fear, and depression.
You won't believe me until you stay sober for awhile, but ALCOHOL is causing much of your depression, not helping with it.
The added bonus is not waking up with a hangover every morning.
