Tried (and failed) To Moderate - Back to Square One

Hey, all,

I had almost a month sober back in August and tried to "moderate" for the past couple months. I think I knew deep down that it wasn't going to work, but I thought I could do it. Anyway, it didn't. I am really disappointed in myself, but I am focusing on moving forward. Can't do a thing about the past except learn from it, right?

So here I am, with a hangover, starting my new day one. Good news is my husband will have two months sober on Tuesday, so he'll be great support. Thank you all for being here. I know I'll be posting a lot.

Welcome back Celticgirl,

I think many people here (including me) have tried countless times to moderate, but it definitely has never worked for me. Someone used the analogy where you're trying to put a leash on a lion.. it only works for a short time and then all hell breaks loose!

Welcome to the Forum Celticgirl!! . . . your right, the past is in the past, I like your positivity :)

It seems you've got good support in your husband!! . . . keep striving for it and you'll get there!! :c009:

Thanks for the post and honesty.

Surrender the battle to win the war!

I know I can't moderate, why? Frankly the only reason I ever drank was t get ****** up.

Glad you are back. Do you have any plans in mind for getting sober this time around? Moderation is impossible for alcoholics, so that was most certainly your addiction talking las time.

I tried to moderate in one way or another for over 20 years. Nothing worked for me.

Best wishes and welcome back ..:c011:

Disappointment is the pathway to freedom

Once I could accept things would never change it led me to surrender

Hi and welcome back! You can do this, it just takes a few stumbles to get yourself upright. x

Welcome back CG

I couldn't moderate either. But like you said, you learned from the experience so that's what to focus on now.

Hope you hangover clears quickly :-)

Putting a leash on a lion... what a wonderful way to think of it! Thanks!
